So if there is only one god who created all mankind and creatures… why do other religions follow other gods and believe that it was their god who created mankind? Who’s right and who’s wrong? Surely if the god we believe in is the true god what about the others? Or is it just a case of what each religion believes in?

Most religions grew up apart from God. (Judaism being the only pre-Christian exception). As such, the people sought explanations for the world they saw around them. Lacking any actual reference point for God, they envisioned the “gods” as, essentially, more powerful humans. They created gods to explain the winds, the sun, the seas, rains, and pretty much every observable natural phenomena, in an attempt to either explain or gains some measurable control over those phenomena. (i.e. pray to Poseidon for a safe voyage, or pray to this god or that for rains.)

Anyone who speaks of one God who is the source and principle of all being–whose essence and existence are identical–is speaking of the same one God, creator of all.

Other so-called gods who are proposed have a contingent essence and therefore cannot be that principle of all being. Some exist (like idols or other persons or things who are adored) and some do not (like, say, the Greek Olympian gods). All these have a beginning or an end, peers or equals, or in other ways cannot be said to be the principle of all being.

‘For all the gods of the peoples are idols; but the LORD made the heavens.’ - Psalms 96:5

In the beginning was the Word. One Almighty God always and forever.

1 Chronicles 20-21 O Lord, there is none like You, nor is there any God besides You, according to all that we have heard with our ears. 21 And who is like Your people Israel, the one nation on the earth whom God went to redeem for Himself as a people—to make for Yourself a name by great and awesome deeds, by driving out nations from before Your people whom You redeemed from Egypt?
