What was God’s plan for mankind if Adam and Eve followed specific intructions not to eat fruit from the tree of knowledge?

Greetings Pag Hingowa,

I am not sure if this is the answer you are looking for, but God wished to be in a Union with them. It is the same plan that he has for each of us when He creates us out of nothing.

From the Catechism of the Catholic Church
#1 God, infinitely perfect and blessed in himself, in a plan of sheer goodness freely created man to make him share in his own blessed life. For this reason, at every time and in every place, God draws close to man. He calls man to seek him, to know him, to love him with all his strength. He calls together all men, scattered and divided by sin, into the unity of his family, the Church. To accomplish this, when the fullness of time had come, God sent his Son as Redeemer and Saviour. In his Son and through him, he invites men to become, in the Holy Spirit, his adopted children and thus heirs of his blessed life

If they had not sinned then God’s plan was that they would live in perfect harmony with His will. However, in giving the free will that would allow them to choose between God and temptation it proved out to be that humanity is weak and can seek out a lesser good in place of the infinite Good.

We have to note that this did not surprise God as He is the eternal now and all things are present to Him eternally. From all eternity God knew that He would send His Son for the redemption of mankind. Only God cannot fall away from God. Even the angels fell and so God knew that whatever He would create would be capable of rejecting Him. And if Adam and Eve had not sinned it would have been the next folks since it would be highly doubtful that humantity would act out better than the angels who are with God.

So to answer your question as stated, if they had not sinned paradise would have been maintained until someone did. God’s plan is for us to be with Him either from the beginning or with the redemptive act of His Son. He will not give up on us because we are made in His image and likeness. Ultimately, heaven will be that paradise restored in lieu of our sinfulness. And thank God for that! 🙂 ><>
