I am once again coming home to Rome and I was formally a Calvinist, I was wonder how does the Church view God’s Sovereignty is it anything like in Calvinism?

I am happy for your return. Forums Extreme

From what I understand of full 5-point Calvinism, there is a belief in double-predestination, which means God gives grace to the elect so that they will go to heaven. He then “passes over” the reprobate, withholding salvific grace from them, resulting in the reprobate never coming to God, and winding up in hell. Essentially, this means God predestines some people for hell. Catholics reject double-predestination.

The two prevailing views on predestination in Catholicism, both which express total sovereignty on the part of God, are Molinism and Thomism.

Here is a great article on the two schools of thought by Dr. Ludwig Ott, whose book is used in seminaries to train priests.

There is another poster, mikeledes, on this forum very well versed in the subject. If he doesn’t stop by, you might want to PM him. 🙂

Thank you, I will take a look at that. I wasn’t meaning predestination so much. I was meaning more that everything God has sovereignty over, in another forum we are debating contraception and one come back was since God was sovereign over all than contraception must be okay.

This does not sound right at all, but thinking about it I can see how that can tie into predestination

That’s like saying sin occurs therefore God approves it—which is complete nonsense, no?
