Hello,

I am currently employed at a local university as a permanent full-time worker.
I absolutely love the people I work with, I love the unique atmosphere the university has, and most importantly I love the fact that I can attend daily mass during my lunch break that takes place in a small chapel located at the heart of the university campus!

With the recent government’s decision to implement budget-cut to the local post-secondary institutions, coupled with the university’s strong initiative to offer online examination its students is making my position at the university unstable (although my position is supposed to be “permanent”).

As a catholic, I was taught that when I pray to God, I should always seek God’s will rather than my own will. However, everytime when I pray to God regarding my career, I always discover myself that I am so afraid about discovering what God wills for my career path - what if God wills to make me laid off from this university position and start look for a new job? I know this sounds really silly but because I love my current job at the university so much, I do not want God to take it away from me.

I know God loves me, I feel God’s love when I pray or when I attend weekday mass during the lunch break, it’s just that I am so worried about losing my job at the university that I don’t have courage to say “Lord, do whatever that is your will, if it is your will that I get laid off from my university position, let it happen”

Thinking about my current career, my current position with the university has helped me grow spiritually and build closer relationship with God, and it has been very good to me in many ways. I don’t see any reason why God would not let me retain my employment with the university until the day I retire, but God might have different plans for me.

…what should I do, and how should I pray? I am really worried about retaining my career

thank you

Losing your job sounds like a bad thing in many ways, but if you continue to willfully put it ahead of God’s will you are inviting Satan to make it a test. Once it becomes such a test you have to give it up or Satan wins. Meaning YOU make it a sin to keep your job and Satan antagonizes you with it.
Let it no longer be a test of wills between your way and God’s way. Pray that you can do this, go to confession that you want to let God decide. Take it out of your worry basket and enjoy it while it is there. Maybe if you let it go it will not become a stumbling block and God, you, and your Job can all live free of Satan’s making it a lever to separate you from God.

A very holy priest said that there really is no such thing as my will and God’s will. They are not separated. Rather, God’s Will is my will PERFECTED.

I am sure that I messed up the way he put it, but I hope you get the idea.

I like:thumbsup: I did this few months ago. Jesus, I TRUST IN YOU. All of me.

Sometimes I have had to pray for willingness to be willing to abide by God’s will.

open the door a crack and that is often enough to let the Holy Spirit blow right in.
