During the sermon, a Priest suggested -
that Bishops and Cardinals -
who speak out - against the Pope -
could be committing blasphemy against the Holy Spirit.
The Priest added - that the Holy Ghost - ultimately - put him on the seat of Peter.

Just curious - what’s your take - on that ?

The Holy Spirit is in the one in control so at least it is doubting in His promises. Of course calling for a reform isn’t always a bad thing.

That’s not what the Church teaches. God certainly allows whoever is validly selected as Pope to be Pope, but He doesn’t actually choose who will be Pope. Pope Benedict XVI, then Cardinal Ratzinger, said as much:
“I would not say so, in the sense that the Holy Spirit picks out the Pope. . . . I would say that the Spirit does not exactly take control of the affair, but rather like a good educator, as it were, leaves us much space, much freedom, without entirely abandoning us. Thus the Spirit’s role should be understood in a much more elastic sense, not that he dictates the candidate for whom one must vote. Probably the only assurance he offers is that the thing cannot be totally ruined. . . . There are too many contrary instances of popes the Holy Spirit obviously would not have picked!”

Human beings elect the Pope. While they do so after prayer (we pray!) and reflection, the Cardinal Electors are men with free will. Their decision is not impeccable, the Church has never taught that it is.

It’s interesting, as I think of it - how Saul was chosen -
And then rejected by God.
How David was chosen - from the brothers -

I also heard that someone - was chosen - when their staff budded - ( Joseph in taking Mary, supposedly )

Our Priest, Father Frank, is strongly obedient to the Pope - in what he says -
Has a very high opinion of the Pope -
So it did catch my ear - when mentioning Bishops and Cardinals.

Unacceptable. To withold one’s assent from the Pope’s decisions does not constitute blasphemy against the Holy Spirit, not by a looong shot. Even heresy and schism do not constitute blasphemy against the Holy Spirit.

This priest was out of line to suggest this.

It depends upon the sense of speaking against the Pope, for example, is it upon dogmas or personal opinions? Catechism:
2148 Blasphemy is directly opposed to the second commandment. It consists in uttering against God - inwardly or outwardly - words of hatred, reproach, or defiance; … The prohibition of blasphemy extends to language against Christ’s Church, the saints, and sacred things. …

This.

However, to say that the Pope is chosen by fallible human beings is not heresy by a longshot.

Nope, just an opinion that differs. That’s very different from disobedience and final impenitence.

It could be sin, though. It is sin to believe that the Pope’s declaration of saints isn’t infallible. It’s a sin not heresy because it’s a weakness in our beliefs of God.

The Pope is not chosen by the holy spirit. He is elected from cardinals that previous popes appointed. These cardinals are supposed to ask for the guidance of the holy spirit and the may or may not do so. The Holy Spirit protects the Church. He doesn’t choose the pope.

He is completely wrong. Nonsense like this leads to papolatry. If someone has feels they need to speak out against the pope, then they should do so.
