This is my first post. I Google’d “going back to work after being a stay at home mom” and this forum popped up. A bit of Divine Intervention, I think
I have been a SAHM for the past 8.5 years. We have one little boy, named Joe. Tomorrow is my first day back working since one week before he was born. I will be working the hours he’s at school. Though I’ll have to figure out childcare for the school holidays and summer.
I am a nervous wreak! I haven’t worked in an office for 8 years! A lot has changed in that time. I’m worried about things like dental appointment and doctor appointments. I’ll need to switch those all around. I won’t be able to be a weekly reading volunteer at my son’s class. He is a bit grumbly about that, and that makes me sad. The volunteer job was as boring as watching paint dry, but I was with Joe, in his classroom, and he loved it. And, it was only one hour a week. I’ll be able to drop him off at school, and pick him up. So, I’ll still be home when he’s home, for the most part. I’m worried about house stuff, cooking, cleaning, etc. I love to bake and cook, housekeeping…not so much. So I’m really worried that my house is just going to tumble down around me!
My husband is eager for me to go back to work. And, in all honesty, I am bored now that Joe’s in school all day. I had a career before he was born, I have a college degree…I can work! I fear I have become very lazy.
Am I thinking this through too much?
(sorry that this is my first post to the board)
