Going to live in Shanghai, China for 2 years... need Church advice!

As I mentioned, in many cases, the English Masses are actually said by ex-pat priests. In my brother’s case, the priest who presides at the (single) English Mass in Nanjing is British and not incardnated in the local diocese.

Call up the consulate of a predominately Catholic country ( Ireland, Malta) and get recommendation from them

Another option is that there may be Masses said at the consulates themselves…

You will want to be in contact with the Shanghai International Catholics to get the answers you want. They offer Masses and Confession in several different languages from foreign priests. They have a yahoo group so you can request membership. groups.yahoo.com/group/ShanghaiInternationalCatholics-SPICES/

Generally these organizations (and most major Chinese cities with sizable expat populations have them for Catholics and Protestants) are open only to foreign passport holders.

EWTN isn’t blocked. You will be able to find a Catholic Church to go to Mass in Shanghai.
You can have many good opportunities to share you faith with people who don’t yet believe , if you’re into that at all, God Bless you, I hope it goes well for you.

Look, no one denies that there are abuses in China. But it is not like the US hasn’t murdered tens of millions of innocent children, now has it?

You need to put the situtation in context and need to listen to the accounts, good as well as bad, of people who have lived in China.

So…since everyone is doing it (murdering the unborn), we should just accept it? The whole two wrongs don’t make a right…but three do philosophy? I’m certain that is not what you meant.

Personally, I would not be looking forward to a visit to China. It’s bad enough here.

No, we should not just accept it. But put it into context please. The US has murdered millions of unborn. So has China. The US is quickly putting materialism into political practice. Freemasonry and Communism go hand in hand. Slowly but surely, civil liberties in this country are being eroded and will eventually disappear as long as the majority of the population is well-fed and well-entertained. And the fact that we are constantly being told that China is so bad doesn’t stop the majority of citizens from spending their treasure on Chinese products and American companies that have whored themselves overseas in a frenzy of corporate greed.

The only thing I will say in our defense is that at least Catholic Churches are plentiful and there is unrestricted access to them in this country. The same cannot be said for the situation in China. Let’s pray that it improves over there, as people like my brother and the OP who go there on assignments are deprived access to the Sacraments.
