Hi Everyone,
Im planning on going to Nepal for a month and also Egypt for a month. We know the RCC is almost none existent in these places, and my main worry is, since I cant go to church on a Sunday, is this considered a sin? I mean, i would rather forgo these countries then miss church if it means im sinning, but would God mind if i miss a few sunday’s to go and see mount everest and the pyramids??
Thanks for your help
Dolphy

You can attend the

Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Kathmandu:

Type: Cathedral
Address: Lalitpur GPO Box 8975, Kathmandu, NP, 1099, Cathedral
Phone: 97715526732
Weekend: Sun: 9 a.m.; 5:30 p.m.
Weekday: Mon thru Fri: 6:30 a.m. Sat: 9 a.m.

In the Orthodox Church we pray for those who are absent for honourable reasons. Perhaps that is an honourable reason?

No, it is not a sin; see your pastor and ask for permission to miss Mass (he can give it). The obligation is not there if it is impossible to attend. The sin is in failing to attend when it is possible.

If you are unable to attend mass, simply get a dispensation from your bishop.

Thanks for your response guys.
I will only be able to attend church once, as ill be on the everest base camp trail for the 3 weeks.
Thanks in advance
Dolphy 🙂

Sounds nice! My sister has been to Everest Base camp twice, the second time with one of my brothers.

As others have said, speak to your priest, attend Mass when you can, and enjoy your trip.

…Oh, and we expect pictures when you return.😛

My mother went to Nepal this past fall, and was at the base camp for a day. She also took a plane ride around the Mt. The pictures she brought back were beautiful.

I wish you well on your trip. When you come back, please post some of your photo’s on here - I like to travel vicareously!😛

Thank you all for your responses, appreciate it!
And yes, ill submit pictures on here when I get back 🙂

There is no need to go to the bishop for that- dispensations can be given by your pastor (note, it cannot be the pastor of wherever you go to Mass- you have to be registered in the parish, or live within the parish’s boundaries)
