Hello, im 19 years of age and so i understand its fully within my rights to go to RCIA and later convert if i so choose. However my father is a protestant minister and both me and my family are heavily involved the in church. My family wouldn’t hate me for going to RCIA nor for converting and my father has friends in the Catholic church however it would make things very awkward for them within their church.

I wondered if it would even be possible to continue going to the Sunday service in my protestant church and start going to Catholic services in different times of the week.

Would like some help and wisdom in this situation. Thanks

Yes, but don’t receive their Holy Communion, and make sure the Catholic Mass you attend is on Saturday evening or Sunday at a time that doesn’t conflict with your fathers service.

That’s possible. Until you are Catholic, then it is not. RCIA is about a year. But it sounds like it would be better to just rip this bandaid off quick rather than having one foot on each side of the fence.

Usually the advice is it would be okay as long as you are strong in the Faith but obviously you are just beginning on your conversion journey. I would say yes to keep peace in the family but as time goes on it will also be awkward for you as you grow in the Faith to hear commentary that might be opposed to the teachings of Jesus and His Church. As has already been mentioned you can go to Mass on Saturday. Will keep you in prayer.

You can go to the Sunday mass vigil on a Saturday. Not the Saturday Mass, just for clarity sake. But at some point the OP will have to fish or cut bait.

Hey fellow RCIA Candidate. If it helps I definitely understand what you are going through I grew up Mormon in a very tight knit community so my conversion was a blow to my family especially my dad. I would recommend going to the Catholic church on Sundays and start praying the rosary daily. Talk to your dad and make sure he knows you still love and respect him and help him understand your journey. I hope my advice helps you out I know all family’s are different but hopefully he will respect your decision.
