Hello, everyone! I have learned that my very bright 18-yr old cousin, raised as a Presbyterian, has begun searching for information on the Catholic faith. Besides the Catechism, what book on doctrine would you recommend for a college-aged student?

Thank you in advance!

I agree, anything by Scott Hahn. He came from a presbyterian background as well. If he enjoys more scholarly reading perhaps Pope Benedict XVI. I also really enjoy Dave Armstrong and Steve Ray. He could check out www.biblechristiansociety.com for free
mp3 downoads that are great aplagetics.

I’m a junior in college, and when I first began looking into Catholicism I found By What Authority (Mark Shea) very helpful. It effectively destroyed any faulty foundations I was basing my prejudices against Catholicism. Also, Catholic and Christian by Alan Schreck. I was already convinced by the time I bought this book, but I wanted the tools to defend my choice intelligently

Neither book insulted my intelligence, but they were also light enough reads that I actually finished them. . .I’ve been preparing for finals and practicum evaluations for a month or so now and anything heavier would have been placed on the back burner post haste.

When I first began researching I also devoured the Ask an Apologist forum for weeks, just learning some of the day-to-day things that might not be covered in books I read. Hope this helps.

Catholicism for Dummies. Don’t let the “dummy” word throw you. It’s an excellent book. However, don’t confuse it with the “Complete Idiot’s Guide,” which is not good at all.

Thank you all so much - these books look like just the thing I need to provide him a wealth of information!
