Anyone have any good book ideas for a young Catholic man. I don’t read very often but am trying to start and I don’t want anything too dense. Can be religious, philosophical, or pretty much anything interesting.

The Young man’s guide by Father Lasance. It was published about 100 years ago, so a few parts might be a little outdated, but its still practical enough Catholic young men of this generation:

Also, St Augustine’s ‘Confessions’ seems appropriate, since he reveals how much he struggled with typical issues young men face.

The Book of Tobias (or Tobit) found in the Holy Bible is a good little book too.

And though this isn’t a book, I think these letters, written by St Gabriel of Our Lady of Sorrows are very edifying. He wrote these letters from ages 18 to 22 (he died at 23):

Also, there is a book by Silas Henderson called “Saint Aloysius Gonzaga, S.J.: With an Undivided Heart.” It is about St Aloysius Gonzaga, a young man who died at 23 I believe. I haven’t read it, but I do want to soon.

The Life of Dominic Savio:

Could you give a bit of a hint about age range: grade school, high school, college?
My kids read The Chronicles of Narnia before I did. That’s how I discovered what I’d missed.

My favorite piece of Catholic fiction is Brideshead Revisited by Evelyn Waugh. if you decide to watch it after you read it, do the 10+ hr miniseries which is _very_faithful to the book rather than the short version which strays.
I recently read The Dark Horse by Rumer Godden. Age recommendation: Upper Elementary/middle school, with parent discussion, through adult. Great story, great writing.
