Hey everyone. I was given an Amazon.com gift card and I am wanting to buy some good Catholic DVDs for my little boy. He is 2.5 years old. I know that there are different cartoons and animated series out there such as Brother Francis and We Are Catholic but I have no idea if these would be good for a 2.5-year-old or nor not.

I am also looking into possibly getting some Catholic books for my little boy but again, I have no idea what to get him.

So anyway, I was hoping that maybe someone could give me some recommendations.

I would suggest look at what reputable Catholic vendors are selling first. Such as EWTN Religious Catalog. He is 2.5. His brain is still developing and does not need screen time. Get some Catholic children’s boardbooks. Or a toy that recites some Catholic prayers. 😊

I have tried that already but I was hoping I could get some additional (name removed by moderator)ut from members of the forum.

That said, I know he doesn’t need screen time just yet but believe me, having 30 minutes of quiet that a DVD can bring is such a blessing.

Go on the Daughters of St. Paul website. Many of their productions are on Amazon, too. They are FABULOUS.

God Made Wonderful Me is a toddler FAVORITE around these parts.

They list 2 pages of DVD’s

That are either ones they wrote or ones that foster Catholic Theory even though they are “just” christian.

I second all of the above recommendations (including the idea that screen time for kids that age should be minimal).

I’ll also add that Ignatius Press has lots of great books and videos for all ages. It looks like they just revamped the website, so it’s even easier to search for materials by age and type.

I know you said specifically you have an Amazon gift card, but I generally find it easier to find a good Catholic resource on the publisher’s website. Then you can type in the book on Amazon and buy it there if that’s where you need to buy it from.

I got my grandson a book called “My First Bible,”, which I can’t find on Amazon any more but something similiar might be nice for him to take to church with him. Maybe like this His First Bible.

Hey everyone. I bought three DVDs for Colton. They are:

Brother Francis - Let’s Pray!: A Lesson on Prayer
Brother Francis - The Saints: Our Heavenly Friends
God Loves You Very Much

The last movie is a VeggieTales movie.

I also bought a book for myself called The Thrill of the Chaste by Dawn Eden. I am hoping it will help to strengthen my faith since I struggle with doubts regarding chastity. I found it in the Catholic Answers shop and since I have an Amazon.com gift card, I bought it on Amazon.

I would suggest My Catholic Family. I’ve only watched one episode (I’m a PSR aide, and I was tasked with finding a video for the children to watch), but it seems to be great for kids. Adults might have a problem with it- the animation isn’t that great and the situations don’t seem authentic; in one episode, the parish priest goes on a camping trip with the boys and their fathers, and two of them get lost. After calling for help, the priest decides to tell everyone about how Sts. Joseph and Mary searched for Jesus for days- the fathers of the missing boys sat and listened calmly (which probably wouldn’t be the case).

Kids, on the other hand, tend not to notice these things unless the adults point them out, so it’s otherwise a great series, from what I can tell.

Thank you for your recommendation. I appreciate it. Unfortunately, I already placed my order before I even seen your post. I will try to remember your recommendation for when I buy more DVDs in the future though.
