Hi,
I watch a lot of movies, but have been lately disillusioned with a lot of the selection that Hollywood and the film business in general has to offer. Sometimes I watch movies because I want to know what other people are watching. Recently, I had been watching a lot of those paranormal psychological horror type movies, and have become sick of them. I want to deliberately start watching more Catholic films, whether they be fictional or nonfictional, stories or documentaries. I’ve put some movies on various saints, i.e Padre Prio, Mother Teresa, St Bernadette, John Paul II, on hold at my library, but I would like to start watching as many good Catholic films as I can.

Does anyone know of good films or maybe even a list or lists of good Catholic films, whether fiction or nonfiction, about saints or anything faith related. Doesn’t have to be overtly Catholic, but something that is Catholic in spirit, maybe. Thank you for any suggestions.

God bless you all. Amen.

  1. The Passion of the Christ, Mel Gibson directing,
  2. The Color of Paradise (even though not Christian per se, has some insights into God, Iranian film)
  3. Life is Beautiful
I would just type “Catholic movie” in google.

Does your parish offer access to Formed? There’s a lot of good films on there, and plenty of other great Catholic resources.

My favourite Catholic films are:
  • The Cardinal
  • Beckett
  • For Greater Glory
  • The Mission
  • The Scarlet and The Black
  • Passion of the Christ
