Is there a good catholic bible out there that has daily readings broken down by calendar date? For instance, each day (365 of them) you would maybe have a OT and NT reading and maybe a short commentary on how to apply what you’ve read.

If there isn’t a catholic one thats fits that description, then I’ll take suggestions for a non-catholic one.

Thanks!

That would be “The One Year Bible” published by Our Sunday Visitor.

It’s the New Revised Standard Version arranged in 365 daily readings. From the publisher’s note: “The One Year Bible, Catholic Edition, has been prepared especially for regular Bible readers who wish to read through the entire Bible in one year. Each day you will read a passage from the Old Testament and one from the New Testament, along with a Psalm and one or two Proverbs. The Deuterocanonical books are arranged in 365 daily readings and appear in the last section of this book…”

I came across a suggestion that we read the Readings of the Daily Mass Missal and reflect on those. With the Internet we can find homilies and reflections. When searching I always write “catholic” first. Then bookmark reliable sites and go to them for a commentary. Just a thought.

Where can you get one at?

I know it’s not quite what you are looking for, but in case this helps, and for anyone else reading, there are few better Catholic ways to read the Bible than to pray the Liturgy of the Hours daily. Whether it’s the 4 volume set or the much simpler Christian Prayer book, there is a rich opportunity to read the Bible. Many consider it the most important type of worship in the Church after the Mass and sacraments, hence the name “Liturgy”.

If you are able to get the 4 volume version and just read the 1st and second readings of the daily Office of the Readings, you get Bible plus extensive writings from the Early Church Fathers - a bonus that’s difficult to get anywhere!

I was going to say at Immaculate Heart of Mary Shop at 2501 Sudderth Drive in Ruidoso, NM, but you’re all a little out of the way, so check the website for Our Sunday Visitor (www.osv.com).

I’ve been reading “The Catholic One Year Bible” from Our Sunday Visitor for almost 16 years now, and currently I’m on my sixth trip through. Generally, I’d give it high marks, particularly as a version that really got me reading SS. I’d really recomend it for someone new to SS reading. I spent about 15-20 minutes a day reading each days selections. After so a long atime, however, I’m searching for a diffierent approach. I purchased a St. Joseph Daily Missal and read the readings for that day, including the antiphon, introductory prayers, etc, as well as the epistle, psalm and gosepel readings. Together, they are a beautiful, beautiful prayer. If you can attend daily mass once in awhile, I think you’ll find that approach worthwhile. I’m not familar with the Liturgy of the Hours, but I am thinking about looking at that option. Reading scripture daily has meant so much to me-good luk. Peace. Jerry in White Bear Lake…
