I am looking for a meditation book of some sort so that I can make better use of my prayer time. If anyone has anything that they recommend, feel free. I can’t exactly put into words what it is that usually works well for me, except to say that the mushy feel good stuff is what generally works poorly.

nevermind, I found some previews online.

It also seems to be a very highly recommended book by priests and bishops.

I will definitely take it into consideration

If anyone has any other suggestions feel free to offer them

SenorS, although you’ve found some reviews, here is a small sample chosen randomly. Fourth Week after Pentecost: Effusion of the Trinity in the Soul:
. . .The first visit or effusion of the Blessed Trinity in our soul took place on the day of our Baptism. The Father sent us His Son; the Father and the Son sent us the Holy Spirit, and because of the indissoluble unity of the Three, without being sent the Father Himself came. Now this visit is renewed every time we acquire and additional degree of grace - through the reception of a Sacrament or by advancing in charity. The promise of Jesus: “if anyone love Me. . .We will come to him and will make Our abode with him” (Jn. 14:23), is never exhausted; it is always new, always ready to be actualized every time we love more intensely. This divine gift which is offered so generously to us, ought to spur us on to generosity and to constant progress in love, for only thus can we have full fruition of it. The Blessed Trinity will set no limits to the effusion of charity and grace in our soul, provided we place no obstacle to their development. . ."

IN CONVERSATION WITH GOD, by Francis Fernandez. This is a set of 7 books, intended for daily reading. Rich enough to be read year after year.

This book was written by an OPUS DEI Priest, so its main emphasis is on living a holy life as a secular. The sancification of everyday activities. Being a good example to others. A life of JOY.

Yes, my daily reading as well. A GOOGLE should quickly find book sellers.

“The Life of Jesus Christ and Biblical Revelations” (or the shortened “Dolorous Passion”) by St. Anne Catherine Emmerich, “The Mystical City of God” by Mary of Agreda, “The Dialogue” by St. Catherine of Siena. i dont know of any Christian books that top these… “The Mystical City of God” has been the favorite book of some Saints.

These are really good-- very, very helpful for personal prayer. On a related note, the writings of St. Josemaria are available online at www.escrivaworks.org He wrote three books that consist of short “points” designed to help people with doing their mental prayer. The Way is pretty much regarded as a spiritual classic these days. As noted above with In Conversation with God, since it’s Opus Dei, the emphasis is on sanctity in everyday life.

And the Escrivaworks website is free! 👍

the actually sell those in the bookstore here(gotta love Catholic Universities), I had seen them, but I wasn’t aware they were such a well known thing, it looked almost like a cheesy new God’s love type thing, which is fine for some, but I am looking for something more saintly and acknowledged, so know that I know this, I’ll have to sneak a peak at one next time im there

One of my friends has the Dolorous Passion(also at the bookstore!), I have been wanting to take a look at it

I’ve also taken a look at the Way, it didn’t really connect with me though

I did take a look at Spiritual Exercises by St. Ignatius of Loyola, and really like the one I read, I might have to shell out for that one
