Good Friday Traditions?

Unfortunately this Good Friday I will not be able to fully participate in the normal requirements of fasting. I have recently become pregnant and that alone excuses me from the fast. I would like to participate, however I’ve been suffering from awful morning sickness that only goes away once I get something in my stomach. So due to that, I have to be constantly munching on something, lest I get immensely nauseous and have a horrible belly ache. Anyway, enough of my complaining. What are some ways that I can make up for this? Do any of you have any specific Good Friday traditions that you follow? Extra prayers? Stuff like that? Any advice would help!

Don’t know about traditions, but I always feel like my prayers are more intense on Good Friday.

Our family situation is presently rather “high-maintenance”, but we did watch The Passion of the Christ this evening, and I told my son that we needed to be more serious this afternoon, put a curb on our usual wacky humor, which we did. I actually spent the day in rather mundane pursuits — grocery pickup, fill up the car with gas ($1.139 per gallon), cleaning, household and yard work.

Oh dude, a little aside, we can get gas in SC (but about an hour from where I live) for 0.99

There are some lovely devotions to the Passion out there. This was a prayer poem I found recently.

Lord, by this sweet and saving sign,
Defend us from our foes and thine.

Jesu, by thy wounded feet,
direct our path aright:

Jesu, by thy nailed hands,
move ours to deeds of love:

Jesu, by thy pierced side,
cleanse our desires:

Jesu, by thy crown of thorns,
annihilate our pride:

Jesu, by thy silence,
shame our complaints:

Jesu, by thy parched lips,
curb our cruel speech:

Jesu, by thy closing eyes,
look on our sin no more:

Jesu, by thy broken heart,
knit ours to thee.

And by this sweet and saving sign,
Lord, draw us to our peace and thine.
