It’s turkey season, and I need me a nice hiking/hunting boot. My feet are still growing so I need something that is:
  1. not too expensive
  2. on the softer side, but still good to walk in ( gotta stalk the turkey)
  3. waterproof (preference)
I know it’s stupid to post on Catholic Answers but I only have one outdoorsmen friend and I need me some of y/all’s opinions.

I think it comes down to personal preference and a brand that works with your foot. I like Vasque; for me, the toe box was the best.

Well I don’t hunt, but I know the turkeys are out, I could hear them when I was picking blackberries. I do hike a lot though, sometimes barefoot because I live in the woods.

I looked at some vasque but they seemed a little pricey, so i dont want to spend 300 dollars on a shoe I may not be able to use next year

Your feet must be hard as rocks. Honestly, it would be cool if I could walk barefoot but there are many rocks and there’s always stuff in the ground. The last thing I want is tetna shot when there’s a nice turkey on the run

I go through shoes quickly, sometimes it is more comfortable. My grandma (God rest her soul) called me a hillbilly. Not without justification, I might add.

You might wanna think about getting a nice solid pair that will last for a while. My brother is crazy about Lowa’s renegade GTX, telling me he even wears them around the house. And heck man, don’t take hillbilly as an insult, all apart of the American culture and I’m mighty happy I can take apart of all aspects.

I don’t hunt birds anymore but I still shoot a lot with my camera. I’ve found Merrill’s to be my favorite brand of hiking boot/walking shoe. Get a pair with vibram soles for that extra sticking power on rock surfaces.

Check out places like the “bargain cave” at Bass Pro or Cabelas. I’m sure other places have similar places. A few years back a got a $150 pair of Lacrosse boots for about $60. A friend of mine got a pair of chest waders for well over half off. There are deals out there if you take the time to look.
