Oh, and I don’t think CAF allows one to close an account. You just stop using it.
I suspect there are ways to get your account closed, but I can’t endorse them.

Sorry to see you go - why not just take a break for awhile?

Either way good luck to you and your family 🙂

I asked the moderators to close my account. The snark on this forum has continued to rise, which seems to reflect society at large!

Good luck.
Hey don’t bail on us here ok. I went back and read through what was said. Just toss the ones who are giving you grief on your ignore list. Thicken your skin a little bit. :console:
People get online and lose all sense of charity sometimes, you know, and that’s what’s actually WEIRD. 😉

Use the Ignore function.

Profile > Control Panel > Edit Ignore List > add member you wish to ignore.
They have no idea that this has been done.

You can also make yourself invisible so no one knows when your online.
Profile > Control Panel > Edit options > Use Invisible Mode.
and you can turn it back on by doing the same thing (but this time un-tick the box).

Take a short break & come back Invisible and refreshed.
:tiphat:
You rock!
Thank you!

Sadly, I had a mentally ill mom. I have been in therapy for 22 years to thicken my skin…but I keep trying.:o

If it adds to your feeling of assurance, I am putting you on my ignore list so as not to accidently reply to anything of yours anymore. I did not in any way shape or form think that I was being snarky or nasty to you but your perception is that I was and I’m sorry. I’ve also raised ASD children and thought that my (name removed by moderator)ut would be helpful but accept that it isn’t. I have a suspicion that someone also got in your ear and I think I know hoo it was but that’s ok.

Cheers though. ❤️

I’m sorry you feel this way. I went back and read through the thread you mentioned and I also did not see anything posted that was aimed at being offensive to you. What I saw were two posters who questioned the legitimacy and authenticity of an award that your son received. They were not saying that your son did not deserve the award and it’s quite possible that he did. What they questioned was the method used to determined who would be the recipient of such an award that is based upon intrinsic merit and virtue which cannot always be quantitatively measured based on outward appearances or behavior. The virtue being praised and awarded (piety) cannot ALWAYS be truly measured by the outward behavior of a person. THAT was what they were simply commenting on. Your son probably very well deserved the award. No one was criticizing you or your son. I’m sorry you felt that way.

I think the same criticism can be made of the Most Congenial award often given out at beauty contests. I mean, how can someone measure and award “Most Congenial” simply based upon how well a young lady smiles or how sweetly she talks when asked a question? 🤷 As we all know, people can certainly be different on the inside than what their appearances are AND sometimes their exterior actions do in fact match their inward state of being 🙂

I hate to see you leave the forums based upon perceived snarkiness that wasn’t intended 😦 I think you have a lot of perspective to add to many discussions.
This award was for acts of mercy, frequent confession and a the seriousness he takes the role of altar boy. Yes, I was crushed because many other people in the school nominated him as the obvious choice based on outward works of mercy and his ability to pray for his tormentors…Maxililian Kolby is his Confirmation Saint. If you would like, you can call my parish and speak of how he donated his inheritance to a family with cancer, sponsored a new chair for the adoration chapel and has treated those who have mocked him with the simple prayer, “God forgive them because the do not know what they do.” Perhaps you can get guidance on how they determine the award.

Some parting advice…relax and don’t take everything so personally. It’s an internet forum. Just b/c someone has a different opinion does not make them rude, offensive or some type of forum bully nor does it make you the victim of some type of attack. Relax.

Perhaps you institute a rule where you only read the forums in the evening after a glass or two of wine. 😃
Therapy is my choice. I grew up with a mentally ill mom. It was Hades. If I didn’t take things personally, I would get the poop beat out of me. Still fighting those demons.

Thanks for the advice…also, no wine because of migraines.

Look, I’m not criticizing anyone or anything. I don’t recall you explaining how your son got the award (I.e., others nominating him). I only recall you saying he was awarded the award. The others simply pointed out as I stated before. I’m sorry you felt as if they and I were somehow criticizing your son or saying he didn’t deserve it. That was not the intention at all and I’m sure if you weren’t emotionally invested in the award, you’d agree that some valid points were made. Again, I’m not criticizing YOU or your SON at all! I was simply trying to encourage you to remain on the boards by trying to explain what the others meant 🤷

Sometimes it helps to step away from the situation for a bit and then re-read the comments, assuming the best in people and their motives. Peace.

I’d also like to say that I, too, grew up with an abusive (verbally and emotionally) father that left deep wounds on my psyche and my soul. Therefore, I can empathize with your situation and will be praying for your healing. I can’t say that I’m there 100% yet, but, like you, for most of my life, I took every little thing people said to heart and often incorrectly assumed their motives. I assumed that every disagreement or minor difference of opinion with me was a deliberate “attack” against me. Sometimes, I can still find myself in that mode but I am getting better at recognizing it and getting myself out of it as quickly as possible. It’s hard sometimes, though.

With Facebook, if someone is bothering you, you unfriend them, or you can limit it by listing the person as an “acquaintance” so less is sent to you.
I actually found a better way on Facebook. You can block newsfeeds from people. That way, their posts don’t automatically show up on your timeline. You can still go to their timeline if you choose, but you don’t have to see their posts everyday.

It has made facebook much more bearable for me. I found myself not liking people as much as I did before I was bombarded with their thoughts everyday - and I didn’t like that. So starting this summer, I started blocking newsfeeds from those that got too political or inappropriate.

click on the arrow on the top right of your screen
“News Feeds Preferences”
“Unfollow People to hide their posts”

click on anyone whose posts you don’t want to see on an everyday basis.
