Any ideas for a movie for a group of girls in a Catholic girls club?

You could check out the Family Movie reviews on the Catholic Communications Campaign page of the USCCB site: usccb.org/movies/familyvideo/videoall.shtml

All reviews in the alphabetical listing on this page are considered family friendly and suitable for all audiences. If you think they might be ready for something a little bit more mature, check on the “archived review” page for something classified as “Adults and Adolescents.”

Harry Potter & Narnia are cool. Moral tales with eye candy and special effects! 🙂

Would you prefer religious or secular movies (with good morals, of course)?

Trouble with Angels gets my vote…also my favorite movie of all time is without a doubt Lady and The Tramp…that’s why I fell in love with Scotties!

Trouble with Angels followed by its sequel, Where Angels Go, Trouble Follows. I am so old I actually saw these films at the theater when they first came out!

My family loves The Trouble with Angels, but we didn’t think much of the sequel.

The Trouble with Angels will be a giggle a minute. If you have time, try the sequel, although it wasn’t our cup of tea, it may be great for the group.

Enjoy.

Never heard of these. I’ll have to get 'em. Thanks!

Any other ideas? I’m really blanking on this.

For sleepover giggles, any wholesome girly-movie gets my vote, especially those animated and others directed at kids. Those are good for pure entertainment purposes, even with older kids (i.e. high school.), because they often take on nostalgic value. (For instance, I have seen high school kids go nuts over Little Rascals). A sleepover favorite for those of us who were kids in the 80’s was Labyrinth.

grand-daughter just had Anne of Green Gables for a sleepover, but all her friends loved the books and the TV mini-series.

I just loved Anne of Gr. G’s. What about the Tim Conway/Don Knott’s movies? The Apple Dumpling Gang et al? And the **ORIGINAL **Parent Trap w/ Hailey Mills was so cute. If they were 13 and older Pretty in Pink? Girl from wrong side of the tracks gets a date w/ bmoc or something like that. My daughter wore her video tape out.

Oh, I love “Return to Me” and there is a lot of Catholic things that are in that film (plus a great cast where most are funny). I also watched “The Road Home” which is a beautiful, wholesome Chinese movie.

I dont know if you were asking me or the post starter. If me, the post starter didnt specify so thats why I went with my choices. Like the other poster said, I dont believe every sleep over and movie viewing should be treated as a “retreat” and everything be about religion. Soemtimes just having fun and giggling is more important. Fun is fun and then heres time for lessons. 😉

Definitely “The Trouble with Angels”! When I was high school 20 years ago (Catholic and all girls), we watched this movie once a year. You laugh, you cry, you feel good.

Didn’t like the sequel, though. It lacked the heart of the first movie.

Also, Disney has released a lot of their old movies that I remember when I was a kid: “The Three Lives of Thomasina” and “That Darn Cat” (both for cat lovers); “Rascal” (based on the book by Sterling North); and many others. Most young people these days have never seen these gems.

DD suggests a “Little Women” marathon with the katherine hepburn version, the June Allyson Version, and the Winona Ryder version. She and her friends used to act out Little Women, just like me and my friends did at that age.

My children (all girls) tell me:

Cinderella Story

Ella Enchanted

Lion, Witch, Wardrobe

Princess Diaries I and II
