Good news from China Center for Adoption Affairs!

Since I bounce through this section frequently, some of you may remember that the family and I have been waiting (two years grumble grumble) to finish an adoption from China. That wait was miserably long, but it always encouraged me to see someone else get pictures, because it meant that some day, my daughter would be home, too.

Well, on Tuesday, we finally got to see her! :extrahappy: We should be going to get her in six to ten weeks.

Current name: Qi Xiao Qin (“Q” is “ch” sound in pinyin)
New name: Xiao Lin Marie
Patron saint: St. Agatha Lin Zhao
Born: March 13, 2007 (two days after my birthday!)

She’s from a county (Qichun in Hubei province) known for being the center of the Chinese herbal industry and for residents with a tendency to be “sturdy” and scholarly. And her medical checkup described her as “active” and vocal. Couldn’t have picked better myself; she’ll fit right in!

DS looked at her picture, said, “Awww… that’s my Lin-lin!” and kissed the photo repeatedly.

DD came downstairs from her nap the other day, gazed at the big blow-up of the rug photo that’s taped to the kitchen arch, and declared, “My Lin-lin is the cutest baby ever!”

They particularly like the photo of her on the scooter; they’re making plans about what kinds of games they can play with her.

I, of course, am “nesting” big time, and DH is doing his best to stay out of the way!

I am so happy for all of you. :bounce: She is a very beautiful child. She sounds so healthy and happy already…just think what she’ll be like when you all get a hold of her!

We, also, are going to adopt. We just can’t start yet due to finances. But…we’ve seriously considered a darling Chinese baby. They are just so beautiful and precious.

Congratulations on your new baby girl. My dd is from the Jianxgi province (and her first character in her name is Lin!). We traveled in Nov 2005 so yesterday we celebrated two years of being a forever family. We went to Mass yesterday to say some special Thank yous!. After Mass we went outside to our parish’s new Memorial garden. In it is a life size cross of the Crucified Christ. We stop most mornings to pray but yesterday we prayed that He watch over all the babies left in China waiting for their mommies and daddies to come and get them. And now I see that prayer has been answered by coming on here.
I know the exact feelings you have right now gazing on your daughter’s precious face. So I give you a teary eyed big hug and congrats. I hope it is not too long before you receive your TA. Ooooh this brings back such a flood of memories!

Congrats! I remember when we got the call from our adoption worker that our daughter was born. Most exciting day ever! :extrahappy: Enjoy that nesting, too.

How exciting!!! I have a friend who is adopting from South America and I can’t wait for her to get her call (they are waiting on the call to go get their kids).
I thought of your baby and the picture you posted when of her when talking with my friend recently, what joy! Your Lin-lin is such a cutie, she doesn’t know it but I bet she has all of you wrapped around her little finger already!

Congratulations! I remember the day “Fedex brought our babies” Well, it was just their pictures!

We adopted twice from China. The first took 14 mos and the second 17 mos. I just read an adoption newsletter that said the wait for CHina is now 2+ years! Its hard to be patient but so worth it.

PM me if you want my travel/packing checklist! You may need to alter it some, but its a good start and 6 to 10 weeks will fly by!

I wonder why it should take additional time (6 to 10 weeks) to be able to get her?

I’m guessing the travel wait time is due to the high number of adoptions going on. All those families have to have a place to stay while the paperwork is being processed. The stay for us both times was 13 days. They might also only do a certain number of adoptions per day/week based on workers available. We had a short interview with people from the Chinese government and with people from the US state Dept. Both interviews lasted about 5 min. but they all have to be scheduled etc.

Yes, the travel time is due to appt’s having to be set up with the US Embassy and the Chinese end…so you have two governments you have to work with. Once you get your referral you also have to send an acceptance of referral letter…in our case we had to wait for everyone in our group to send their acceptance letters before our agency would schedule the appts. So these things do take time.
We waited 13 weeks in between referral to travel time due to Oct. trade fairs over in China…it was loooong. So six weeks to me doesn’t sound long at all. Gives you time to prepare and make travel accommodations.
She is so worth the wait too!
