Hello everyone!

This is my first post after signing up for this forum and reading posts from day one.

There actually may already be a post about this somewhere (and if anyone knows of one, by all means direct me there 🙂 ), but I am wondering if anyone can tell me of some really good NFP books I can lay my hands on…My boyfriend and I are saving sex for marriage and we recently had out first serious discussion about the desire to follow NFP after we are married. I know that this is the man the Lord wants me to share my life with and I feel like I want to start to learn all I can about NFP now so I am well prepared when the time comes.

Any suggestions would be most helpful and appreciated!

God bless you, Lori

Hi. I learned from “The Art of Natural Family Planning” and “Taking charge of Your Fertility” I ordered them online and paid about $30 for both, and I got free shipping. the couple to couple league also has a correspondence course that you can take. But I think it’s kind of pricey. Good Luck!

Lori: Yes the couple to couple leauge does have a home study course for $80 (includes shipping & handling) which is indeed pricy. The ccli info is the best way to learn NFP without attending classes. Features new 4th Edition of The Art of Natural Family Planning; self-test questions after each chapter; guide booklet explaining course, CCL membership, CCL Family Foundations magazine and chart interpretation, counseling, thermometer, Daily Observation Charts, brochures, pamphlets. Course is definitely worth extra investment because of extra information & membership benefits it provides. 10-day money back guarantee. I personally, checked out a book at the library and self taught myself. I basically use it for preventing pregnancy, but since you are young and going to be getting married and starting a family, the ccli info may be a good investment.

There are many books and web sites that can help you learn NFP. Then again, you might prefer to take an actual class, especially if you already know you’ll need to use it soon after you’re married. Either way, I’d suggest that you start by learning a little about the various methods, so you can figure out which one(s) you’d prefer to study. 🙂

Other posters have mentioned the Couple to Couple League, which teaches the Sympto-Thermal method. Here are some other types of NFP:

Billings (Ovulation Method)
woomb.org
Full instructions and downloadable charts are available free online. Classes (online or in-person) are recommended.

Family of the Americas (Ovulation Method)
familyplanning.net/engindex.html
Basic information is available free online. Full instructions can be purchased in hard copy for $20, or downloaded in electronic format for $5. Videos and computer software are also available.

Pope Paul VI Institute (Ovulation Method: Creighton Model)
creightonmodel.com/
No materials are available to the public, but they can refer you to an instructor.

You might also check your public library or local bookstore. They sometimes have books about NFP - usually the Billings Method, or non-Catholic titles such as “Taking Charge of Your Fertility.”

Hope that helps a bit!

The book I learned from is called “Your Fertility Signals”. It teaches both the Billings method and the one Couple to Couple League teaches which includes taking your temperature daily. You can find the book at just about any book store. It’s actually a secular book, but it is a great tool.🙂

Wow! Woomb.org was quite informative. Thanks for sharing! 👍

I too am in the same situation. My girlfriend and I decided to wait until our wedding night. We decided to practice NFP if ever there is a need since we did decide on only having 2 or 3 children.

Thank you so much for these sources–I see I have a lot of reading and learning to do…It’s a good thing I decided to start early (we are not yet engaged!!). 😉
