Could someone explain what exactly constitutes good works!

I know faith without works is dead. Would making a charitable

donation to a catholic organization be considered good works?

Doing something selfless out of love is a good way to describe charity. Whenever the opportunity crosses your path to assist or aid someone or do something that would enable good to be accomplished I believe it is a “good work.”

Not necessarily. It depends where the heart is and what was the intent. An example would be to donate 10000 dollars for a new organ so that you may have your name on a big plaque to be put up on the back wall so that you can be praised for your good deed. Good works will recieve rewards stored up in the kingdom. All our works will be tested before the Lord, what was good will be accepted ,what was not will be cast out for you already recieved your reward here on earth. God Bless.

read the judgement of the nations at the end of Matthew’s gospel. when Lord did we see you hungry and feed your, or naked and clothe you . . .
read the beatitudes
from this we get the church’s prescription of the spiritual and corporal works of mercy.

Hello Mario_p,

**Obey God’s commandments and feed the poor. These are the good works our Lord commanded us to preform. **

NAB MAT 25:31

“When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit upon his glorious throne, and all the nations will be assembled before him. And he will separate them one from another, as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will place the sheep on his right and the goats on his left. Then the king will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father. Inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me, naked and you clothed me, ill and you cared for me, in prison and you visited me.’ Then the righteous will answer him and say, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? When did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? When did we see you ill or in prison, and visit you?’ And the king will say to them in reply, ‘Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me.’ Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you accursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink, a stranger and you gave me no welcome, naked and you gave me no clothing, ill and in prison, and you did not care for me.’ Then they will answer and say, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or ill or in prison, and not minister to your needs?’ He will answer them, ‘Amen, I say to you, what you did not do for one of these least ones, you did not do for me.’ And these will go off to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.” (ISA 58)

NAB MAT 19:16

The dangers of riches. Another time a man came up to him and said, “Teacher, what good must I do to possess everlasting life?” He answered, “Why do you question me about what is good? There is One who is good. If you wish to enter into life, keep the commandments." “Which ones?” he asked. Jesus replied “You shall not kill”; ‘You shall not commit adultery’; ‘You shall not steal’; ‘You shall not bear false witness’; ‘Honor your father and mother’; and ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’” The young man said to him, “I have kept all these; what do I need to do further?” Jesus told him, “If you seek perfection, go, sell your possessions, and give to the poor. You will then have treasure in heaven. Afterward, come back and follow me.” Hearing these words, the young man went away sad, for his possessions were many.

NAB 2JO 1:5

But now, my Lady, I would make this request of you (not as if I were writing you some new commandment; rather, **it is a commandment we have had from the start): let us love one another. This love involves our walking according to the commandments, and as you have heard from the beginning, the commandment is the way in which you should **
walk.

NAB JOH 14:21

“He who obeys the commandments he has from me is the man who loves me; and he who loves me will be loved by my Father. I too will love him and reveal myself to him.” Peace in Christ,

Yes, it would but you may wish to look up the corporal works of mercy as well as the spiritual works of mercy. They are rather comprehensive.
