France, the defender of the free world, is at it again. The Economist just run an article about France as being Googlephobia. President Chirac was alarmed when he found out that 74% of his countrymen was using Google to search the net. He fears that English will swamp the internet when Google start to release millions of texts from American and British university libraries. Chirac wants to stop American (English) invasion by setting up French search-engine. Chirac also sees the popularity of CNN and Fox as a threat to French culture. He wants a French version of 24 hours news channel that rivals the American, but it hasn’t happened yet.

On the business front, they set up anti-capitalist laws barring American companies to own their companies. Yet, they (EADS) want to have a big piece of the US defense spending, but they don’t want us to do the same.

How comes the French don’t accept that they no longer the world’s superpower? They lost that title hundreds of years ago. Gotta love the French!

Chirac should be less worried about English and more worried about Arabic. France is a dying nation and culture. They aren’t breeding at replacement levels, they’re importing more and more immigrant labor and they’re economy is on the brink of disaster thanks to their blind allegiance to nationalist socialism. In the next couple of decades, France will either find a way to save themselves or they will slowly be erased.

There are two ways to face the future and the inevitable change it brings. You can either be flexible and let your own culture grow and evolve (and therefore survive), or you can be protectionist and rail against progress. France chose the latter a long time ago. They’re trying to fool themselves into thinking they’re the cultural center of the Western world like they once were (for a very very brief time) in the beginning of the 20th century. They won’t let go of a past that ended a long time ago and it will drag them down to their own demise.
