Senator Inhofe Press Release follows. Full quoting allowed

WASHINGTON**, DC**** –** Former Vice President Al Gore refused to take a “Personal Energy Ethics Pledge” today to consume no more energy than the average American household. The pledge was presented to Gore by Sen. James Inhofe (R-Okla.), Ranking Member of the Environment and Public Works Committee, during today’s global warming hearing.

Senator Inhofe showed Gore a film frame from “An Inconvenient Truth” where it asks viewers: “Are you ready to change the way you live?”

Gore has been criticized for excessive home energy usage at his residence in Tennessee. His electricity usage is reportedly 20 times higher than the average American household.

It has been reported that many of these so-called carbon offset projects would have been done anyway. Also, carbon offset projects such as planting trees can take decades or even a century to sequester the carbon emitted today. So energy usage today results in greenhouse gases remaining in the atmosphere for decades, even with the purchase of so-called carbon offsets.

“There are hundreds of thousands of people who adore you and would follow your example by reducing their energy usage if you did. Don’t give us the run-around on carbon offsets or the gimmicks the wealthy do,” Senator Inhofe told Gore.

“Are you willing to make a commitment here today by taking this pledge to consume no more energy for use in your residence than the average American household by one year from today?” Senator Inhofe asked.

Senator Inhofe then presented Vice President Gore with the following "Personal Energy Ethics Pledge:

As a believer:
· that human-caused global warming is a moral, ethical, and spiritual issue affecting our survival;

· that home energy use is a key component of overall energy use;

· that reducing my fossil fuel-based home energy usage will lead to lower greenhouse gas emissions; and

· that leaders on moral issues should lead by example;

I pledge to consume no more energy for use in my residence than the average American household by March 21, 2008.”

Gore refused to take the pledge.

sarcasm alert

Well, there’s a big surprise!

I’m not surprised. Many prominant enviornmentalists have very large homes with cedar decks and opulant hottubs. They jetset around promoting their cause.

There’s an old joke:

What’s the difference between an enviornmentalist and a developer?

Answer: The developer wants to build a house in the woods. The enviornmentalist already has one.

Does anybody have any idea of what kind of private jet Gore flies around in?

[Nancy Pelosi, who by the way is a Democrat, wants to fly around in a Boeing 757.] [Ron _____ who is also a prominent Democrat already has a Boeing 757. I was driving around Newark Airport one day and saw it and looked up the number and dadgum!]

As Gomer Pyle used to say, **“Surprise! Surprise! Surprise!” **😃 😃

in the (minimal) debate that followed the Al Show, not once did hear a question about “which senators and reps own stock in which companies that sell low-E lightbulbs, appliances, devices, and carbon offsets”.

I am not a Goreite, I dont buy into all of his documentary, but nowhere in that 42 second clip did I hear Gore refuse anything - In FACT - what happens, is that clip CONVIENIENTLY STOPS as Gore begins to give an explanation…gee, I wonder why? 😃

What I DID hear was him state the Green energy he purchases makes him Carbon neutral. For the sake of “Fair and Balanced” maybe the title of that thread should be changed since its clearly MISLEADING :rolleyes:

The thread title must reflect the Title of the News article as per forum rules. Since the OP states that he obtained permission to post the full of the article rather than 2 or 3 paragraphs, this would have been cleared with the moderating staff already.

Can one buy Carbon Offsets on EBAY?

It starting to look as if only the rich and famous will be able to live the good life because only they who will be able to afford the many carbon offsets necessary for an oppulent lifestyle.

Sounds more and more like the old Soviet Union.

Welll, … it is well known that there are close “financial ties” between Occidental Petroleum (and it’s head honcho, Armand Hammer … of Soviet Arm and Hammer association … [no joke]) and the Gore (senior and junior ) family. [no sarcasm; and no joke.]

So the allusion to “looking more and more like the Soviet Union” isn’t that far off.

I keep thinking of a Mallard Filmore cartoon, where Barbra Striesand is saying, “Here’s a list of things ordinary people can do to help the environment.”

Then she goes on to say, “I’d do them myself, but I’m not an ordinary person.”😃

Al has been making a fool of himself since he lost the election to GW. Even South Park has taken major shots at him.
I’m in the camp that believes that global warming is mainly a result of natural forces. Have we, as humans, contributed to it? Probably, but the addition is irrelevant when compared to our planet’s own functions.
And I voted for the guy.

That’s a perfect one. Was that a political cartoon? I’d love to see it.😃

Quasi political – the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette always prints it along with “Doonsbury” so you have an idea of what it’s like.

Hey, if one of you want to send me $500.00, I won’t drive my Ford Explorer to Europe this summer. It’s a win-win deal. You’ll get carbon credits and I won’t get my truck all soaked up with salt water driving across the Atlantic. Wow, what a deal.

:extrahappy:

Reminds me of the book animal farm…

Four legs good two legs better…

Reminds me that i need to go re-read that book!

Gore is such a hypocrite. His family fortune comes from his father’s ties to the *Island Creek Coal Company *of which he used to be CEO and Armand Hammer of Occidental Petroleum (the company indirectly responsible for the creation of OPEC due to its dealings with Libya) was one of his best friends.

Al Gore is supremely great as saying absolutely nothing BUT he says it SO WELL.
