Gospel and Homily mixed together

Is it allowed for a priest to give the Gospel/Homily at the same time? For example, divide the Gospel into 3 sections, and read the first section, talk about it, and repeat for the 2nd and 3rd sections?
 
Why not just read it a second time in the homily, splitting it up then and making his comments after each section?

That’s the usual way to handle it. I’ve seen it done in both Ruthenian and Roman Catholic parishes.
