Gospel of Mark reading from Sun 6-28? (The curing of Jairus daughter)

Sorry I can’t remember the passage numbers but the reading from Mark’s gospel this last Sunday (6-29-09) tells the story of Jesus curing the daughter of Jairus who had fallen ill and died. At the end Jesus make a statement, and I am sorry I am paraphrasing somewhat here, to “not tell anyone of this occurrence”?

There are other passages (and again I am sorry I cannot quote them exactly) where Jesus performs a miracle and then tells those involved not to speak of it. What is the teaching of the Church in regards to why Jesus does not want people to speak of these things? I have always been somewhat confused by this although I think I might understand why but can someone please explain to me what the Church says in regards to the reason(s)Jesus asks to keep these events quiet?

One common interpretation is that the author of the Gospel wanted the audience to understand that who Jesus was (is) could not be fully understood simply by miracles and teachings. You (they, the disciples, the audience, etc.) have to wait until the passion and death and resurrection. Only then could the truth be proclaimed; otherwise it would be incomplete.

I concur. Also remember that it was the raising of Lazarus which started the plot to have Him arrested and tried. Imagine what would happen if the Pharisees new about this little girl! Jesus work was not complete, so the secrecy was only in place until Good Friday.
