Gospel of Nicodemus

I came across the Gospel of Nicodemus at NewAdvent:

It serves to further reveal the mind of the Sanhedrin after Jesus’s death, and shows their deepening concern that they could have acted unjustly. Under the excuse to be done with the episode they instigated, and in hopes the sequence of past events could be made to unfold that could only show Jesus’s guilt, they discover instead a story of a man’s life filled with events that show God’s favor with him, his miraculous works, and a simple man who seems to command angels and defy death.

All these hit home, but still their hearts are hardened further, because now the truth is so glaringly obvious.

We can only pray for those who have not been given this gift of faith we have been blessed with. I cannot imagine why I received this gift it certainly was not merited . I had turned a deaf ear to God for many many years. So “why me?” when there are so many who deserve this gift far more than I, not that I deserve it at all. Gods Love is so boundless yet so mysterious and his wisdom so far beyond man’s it is incomprehendable.
Our wisdom is foolishness to God. How can we begin to know the depths of his Loving plan. This is where humility and obedience are where we best meet Jesus and absorb his Loving Grace He so longs to give us.

There are only 4 gospels: Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.
The gospel of Nicodemus is not a gospel.
It was written several hundred years after the death of Christ.
It is not accepted by the Church.

Be careful how you say this. There are only 4 Canonical Gospels. There is a Gospel of Thomas (heretical), Nicodemus (as mentioned), and various others. Some of heretical and some are not. That doesn’t make them “non gospels”. The Church does not have a copyright on the word “Gospel”.

For instance, the Church looks favorably to the ProtoEvangelium of James, even going so far as weighing whether it was Canonical or not.

You are right. This is what I meant.
