I have a couple of friends who are constantly talking about people and spreading stories that were suppose to be personal and secret, but they don’t care because they think its funny and they like to make fun of people. This is such harmful gossip that can really hurt someone. I am trying to find in the Bible where it may say that gossip is bad.
Can anyone out there help me find some Scripture on gossip?

How about:

16 You shall not go up and down as a slanderer among your people, and you shall not stand forth against the life of your neighbor: I am the Lord. (Le 19:16).

19 He who goes about gossiping reveals secrets; therefore do not associate with one who speaks foolishly. (Pr 20:19).

18 He who conceals hatred has lying lips, and he who utters slander is a fool. (Pr 10:18).

28 A perverse man spreads strife, and a whisperer separates close friends. (Pr 16:28).

29 They were filled with all manner of wickedness, evil, covetousness, malice. Full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malignity, they are gossips, 30 slanderers, haters of God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, 31 foolish, faithless, heartless, ruthless. 32 Though they know God’s decree that those who do such things deserve to die, they not only do them but approve those who practice them. (Ro 1:29).

Also, the 8th Commandment covers gossip: Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.

This is really sad, because gossip seems to be what society is practically made up of nowadays.

Is that from the Catholic Ten Commandments? It’s the 9th for Protestants.😉

James 3:1-10:
Not many of you should become teachers, my brothers, for you realize that we will be judged more strictly, for we all fall short in many respects. If anyone does not fall short in speech, he is a perfect man, able to bridle his whole body also.

If we put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we also guide their whole bodies. It is the same with ships: even though they are so large and driven by fierce winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot’s inclination wishes.

In the same way the tongue is a small member and yet has great pretensions. Consider how small a fire can set a huge forest ablaze.

The tongue is also a fire. It exists among our members as a world of malice, defiling the whole body and setting the entire course of our lives on fire, itself set on fire by Gehenna.

For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and sea creature, can be tamed and has been tamed by the human species, but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. With it we bless the Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings who are made in the likeness of God. From the same mouth come blessing and cursing. This need not be so, my brothers
