So whatdaya know, everyday almost I get home from college, get my mail and walk up to my apartment place, throw purse down on counch, take shoes off and sit my butt down and open my mail.

I opened one piece and was stunned when it was a loose leaf piece o paper which was handwritten or something and I was like, “what the heck is this?” and I got this tiny booklet and opened it a little and it was talking about God and this and that and I was a little suspicious at first due to the way the context was written and then when I turned it over, ah ha! It was by the JWitness and the letter said something like hi my neighbor I live in your area but have not had time to meet with you and talk to you…blah blah blah…and I thought, there is no way you are going to talk to me.

I was thinking, how the heck did this person get my address? :ehh:

But then, I thought I would NEVER get anything by our other brethren but I did!😃

We get something each Christmas, a magazine type thing, from our friendly neighborhood Seventh-Day Adventists. Nice, friendly stuff until you get to the middle pages. Then it starts in on the Pope, saying most Protestant scholars of the time of the Reformation believed the Pope was the Antichrist and that since Catholics worship on Sunday they will burn in hell.

To which I say: Merry Christmas to you and yours.

A few months ago my mom passed away, and a JW found my mom’s obituary and sent my step dad a “sympathy” letter with some pamphlet talking about their false teachings about death. It soon found it’s place in my trashcan. I had heard that this was a common tactic of theirs, and it made me pretty mad. To use a situation like that to preach to a person is really low.
People often think that they are scared off by Catholics, but that really isn’t so. They love to target Catholics because unfortunately so many of them don’t read the bible. They knew I was Catholic and they came around my house for four years and didn’t go away. I finally started letting them visit. We set up Wednesday mornings and I always had the coffee ready. I was a little nervous because I was expecting them to have me jumping through hoops trying to defend myself because they supposedly know the bible so well. I couldn’t believe how easy it was to stump these guys. They just disappeared after about three or four weeks.

I’m sorry to hear that about after your mom passed away. Talk about being inonsiderate!

That’s good they never came back!😃

You know, a lot will not agree with what I am about to say but the JW that comes to my family’s door every weekend is not a bad guy. He has become a sorta quasi-family friend. My dad even took him for a ride along one night while on patrol. Obviously we will not entertain any of his notions but you have to admire their determination. This guy comes back even after my grandmother chased him off our property with a broom

Currently I am the only one who will answer the door to talk to him (usually because I am the only one home when I go back home from college on vacation) but he will talk for about like 1 minute about the cover story on the “watchtower” and then proceed to give my dogs treats and ask me how my family, girlfriend and my father’s illness is doing. Maybe this is because we are the only family in town who will even answer the door when he comes, who knows.

He knows we are Catholic, and he never brings up that he thinks we are following the wrong religion. I never feel that I have to defend myself, or that he is attacking me. You wouldnt have thought you just got done talking to a JW if it werent for the watchtower books they leave behind. I dont know others experience with JW but this has been mine, with just this particular JW.

Roman Catholic, that actually is a good idea…The time he spends with you, is time he is :nope: not spending confusing & upsetting someone who is less strong in their faith!

HAHA I never looked at it that way, so in a way by entertaining this lost fellow I am doing Catholics as a whole a great service. You are all welcome, please dont hesitate to thank me 👍

Of cause JW’s know your address, they know everything  They patrol the neibourhood an awful lot because of their field service (door-to-door)

**JW’s don’t really get scared off by Catholics, we are considered an easy target. 😦 **

Roman Catholic,
I’m sure he’s a nice guy… the dog treats are a sweet gesture… but you must know this… he HAS to knock on doors & count his “time” and report back to his Elders. By knocking on your door he’s able to report the following information on his “time sheet” - 1. All time he spent talking to you (which explains the "how’s the family… girlfriend… weather… whatever - it all counts) 2. Count the magazine placement 3. Count it as a “backcall” - because he’s visited you in the past. That’s three things… awesome work for a JW. My guess - if he comes back again & again is that he’s a pioneer perhaps - they need to get in ALOT of hours to qualify for that status and your door is as easy-peasy as it gets. You’re not doubt friendly (well - except for your broom waving Grandama!) and you let him talk. The patrol ride w/ Dad - he’s was counting all those minutes. Even if he doesn’t bring up religion - it all still counts.

If you could get in a few words about your love for Jesus Christ & His Church - that would be awesome… maybe plant some seeds. I’m not saying you need to ditch the guy… I guess the only point I’m trying to make is that he’s at your door because his religion REQUIRES him to be there. It’s a matter of his salvation. He really has no choice in the matter. How sad is that?

Blessings to you,
CM (former JW)

Tell you what if one comes to my door and knocks, I’ll say, “No one’s home!”:D:rotfl:

They are called “Return Visits” now. The reason I heard for the change is pretty funny. From the podium in the Kingdom Hall (JW gather place for those unfamiliar) it was explained that the term “backcall” was what the Mafia used to order a hit, so they changed the term to “Return Visit” to distance the JWs from organized crime.

carol marie - I will keep all of that in mind. It had never crossed my mind to carry on a debate with this man since we end up talking about other things. Maybe next time I answer the door I will say, “perfect I was just about to pray to the rosary. Would you like to join me?” 😃

My family has known this guy for about 20 yrs and he works with my sister and sister in-law at a local school district (dont worry he doesnt have access to childrens minds 👍 ) so it is really not an option for me to tell him leave. Most of the time we dont answer the door and he just leaves the dog treats and watchtower on the door step.

So you were a former JW huh? How long were you one of those and how was converting to Catholicism as a former JW? To tell you the truth I know next to nothing about the religion (cult?), tells you how bad this guy is at what he does lol. Anyways thanks for the concern

God Bless

They have a big computer with everyone’s name and address in it, just like the Vatican…😛

PS–this is a joke…a reference to Jack Chick, for those who don’t recognize it…😃

Ya gotta wonder who is sitting around up at Bethel Headquarters worrying about such things. Like people are often confusing the Mafia with the Jehovah’s Witnesses?!

PS–This, too, is a joke…spoken with tongue in cheek…

I always take their material so that I can get it off the street. The recyle bin comes in handy. If they give you a book just take it and look through it. You will be quite surprise how amused you will be by it. ie… Jesus said to take up your torture stick. You will find a lot of assumptions mixed with scripture. I am always polite to them and occasionly let them in for discussion. Like it was said before, plant a seed.

I studied w/ the JW’s when I was 16 - got baptized at 19 and left when I was almost 25. I didn’t convert directly to the Catholic Church (that, in my opinion would be a rather difficult thing to do because although JW’s disagree with all other religions, they seem to pick on the Catholics the most so I had ALOT of negitive opinions about the Catholic Church for years after I left the JW’s) I became a born again Evangelical Christian first - and 10 years went by before I felt God call me home to the Catholic Church. 🙂

If you know nothing about the JW’s - you’re right… that guy isn’t such a great “witness.” He does sound like a nice guy though. And I’m happy that you are kind to him. They really are so brainwashed - it’s so sad.

Blessings,
CM
