Soon to be ex boss BTW(not related to this). I am def not attending–any religious education will be via my Catholic church (Just finished a Why Catholic session;) ), but I wanted to know if anyone had heard anything about this. My boss is an “evangelical Christian” as he puts it, not a protestant. Sounds like a recruitment effort.

*This is an email my wife put together regarding the Truth Project I mentioned to you before. My invitation before was informal. This invitation is formal.

Today’s Christian Faith is not your father’s faith. I think you know me well enough to realize this is not some stuffy old Bible Study full of condemnation. It’s really a fascinating look at the Truth.

We’d love to have you – check out the link

Hi All,

We are going to be having a small group at our house starting on April 15 at 6:30-8:30pm. This is for anyone who has sincere questions about Christainity and God. Whether you have been going to church all your life or have never walked in a church door, anyone is invited. Whether you are a Catholic, Lutheran, Baptist, whatever. All Christianity is all founded on the same truth. Especially, if you just question the whole thing altogether. This is for you.

It will be a very informal atmosphere with dessert and coffee and open discusssion. Each week we will will play a DVD from “Focus on the Family” on one of the following topics: Truth, Science, philosophy, creation, etc. Afterwards anyone is free to ask questions about anything. The DVD’s really open up discussion.

The DVD’s are called “The Truth Project.” They are as I said above from “Focus on the Family.” If anyone wants to preview the program you can look at the trailer they have by clicking onto this website:

We truly hope you can come. Just let us know so we can plan.*

Well, in the companies where I’ve worked, no manager or staff can use work email for that personal things like this type of invite.

I hear ya–it’s a small, privately held company–so, liberties are usually taken. I just ignored it–no one has complained, but ,I can easliy see it to be a reason to terminate, but, agina, small co, won’t happen. I am trying to learn my faith & apologetics better so i can better comment/defend our faith re: these types of things.👍

In that case, then send out an invite to your local Why Catholic? group 🙂

Too bad this didn’t happen sooner LOL! Last session till the fall, was last week.

The question here is how strong are in your faith? I went to the web link and checked out the material that will be covered and it seems to me this is more about how Christians are to relate to the world, more then a envangelical recruitment tool. If you have a strong faith this may be a way to build dialog with someone that has strong faith in Chirst, that will not be a us vs them situation. This video is from Focus on the Family, a ministry of Campus Crusades, I have a close relationship with a friend that works with Campus Crusades’ Jesus Film Project, our relationship is strong and we support each other in our own faith journeys and ministries. This relationship goes back over thirty-three years.

This might open the door for you to invite him to Catholic events, such as a men’s conference. It might be the first step to bring him home to Rome. But you need to be sure of your own beliefs.:twocents:

PS: My friend became a devout Christian when he saw me become one (1974), he was raised a Catholic. Now I’m a Catholic, I don’t know God’s will, but I hope my friend follows me again.

Interesting point of view. I am a revert, was away for approx 25 years before being guided back by the Holy Spirit. Not sure how strong I am in knowledge of our faith–been working hard at that (don’t think I am strong enough to do an apologetics defense), but I am not wavering–I believe & know the Catholic church is the one true church. Mebbe I’ll check it out, but after I give my resignation notice tomorrow, I’m not sure they will want me over LOL!

I would RSVP just to be polite, if possible. A “so sorry, I can’t make it” suffices. Or “I have a faith community but thanks for your thoughts”. They may actually need to plan food, etc.

I’m immediately turned off by the “today’s Christian Faith is not your father’s faith”. It most certainly is! And his father’s, and his father’s… 🙂

Today’s Christian Faith is not your father’s faith
Um…then that’s a problem. Personally, and maybe this is just me, but I’d like to have my Father’s Faith, and the faith of his fathers, and the faith of my father’s father’s fathers. Well, that is if you believe Truth doesn’t change.

Forgive me for asking, if you don’t want us to know, but why are you resigning? Not just over this invitation, I hope. And can you get another job? Are you sure you need to do that?

I found a new job–been at this one for 9.5 years, but needed to gain $$ & a career path with upward mobility. The only job I could move up to here is my boss’ job, & he’s never going to leave (he’s younger than i as well). --I just wanted to put it in the post so you would know it’s not going to affect me in the future/job, etc.
