Gotta scapular?

I tried doing a search to find a site for you, but all I found was online stores where sacramentals are sold. They had a few kinds of scapulars, but didn’t really tell about them. I’ll try to be a little help here.

The most popular is the Brown Scapular of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, which is associated with the Carmelite order. It is a sign of consecration to Our Blessed Mother. I wear one, and it reminds me to imitate her.

There is a Green Scapular, the purpose of which is spiritual healing. One can give one to someone, or put it in a room where they are and say the prayer daily for them: “Immaculate Heart of Mary pray for us, now and at the hour of our death, Amen.” I put one under the mattress where my husband sleeps (he is deceased now), and prayed for him every day. He did come to the faith a few months before his death.

There is a white Scapular of the Dominican order, and there is a Red Scapular, where the person who wears it has a particular devotion to the Blood of Jesus.

There is a Blue Scapular of the Immaculate Conception, and a Black Scapular of the Seven Sorrows of our Blessed Mother.

Maybe a search on individual scapulars will come up with something for you.

God bless…
THANK YOU!!!
Do you know anything of the tradtion(s) that started the wearing of scapulars? Is there one for Divine Mercy?

As far as the Scapulars go, they are designed to be miniature “habits” of the order from which they originated.

For instance, the Carmelites’ habit has a piece of brown material that fits over their head and a long piece hangs in the front and in the back. This is worn over their regular habit.

I don’t believe there is a Divine Mercy Scapular.

You were in Guadalupe… or you meant there was a miracle in Winnipeg?
No, there was really a miracle in Winnipeg - the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe was transported to the 2005 conference, and it began to weep tears of rose-scented oil during one of the break periods. I wasn’t in the room when it happened, but I heard about it from some friends who were there at the time - they saw the oil coming out of the image and they touched it with their fingers - it was the most amazing thing. The whole room smelled of roses for the rest of the conference, and there were mile-long line-ups of people who wanted to touch the image and get some of that oil on their hands.

They brought the image back again last year, but it didn’t do anything that time.

Did a quick google search - you can get Divine Mercy scapulars here (have to scroll down to nearly the bottom of the page to see them).

Looks like they’re Brown Scapulars that have a Divine Mercy image on them, so the blessing/enrollment process would be the same as for the Brown Scapular.

Oh…thanks for finding out about that!

our whole parish, or a large part of them, is wearing scapulars today, and every day of Advent, and hopefully forever. the consecration and blessing is before all Masses this weekend for those who are participating in the Advent spiritual program. 350 people signed up and took the packets with the scapulars and attended the introductory session to explain it, we will see how many actually wear the scapulars and come to the retreat and participate in the other parts of the program.

That is wonderful that this powerful sacramental is being promoted!

On July 16 of this year a parish in my area, after Mass, had a time to introduce what the Scapular of Our Lady of Mount Carmel was all about, and then those who wished to, came forward and were enrolled in it.
