Grace is when God gives us what we don’t deserve
But, Mercy is when God doesn’t give us what we do deserve.

Turn to Me and be saved.

I heard this on EWTN this last week. The priest said to take it and meditate on it
before the Blessed Sacrament. I used it once and plan on using it often in the future.

May the Peace of the Lord be with all who read this.

Please reply if you have done this.

I heard that also on EWTN. And yes, it is a very thought provoking and spiritually enlightening meditation in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament. Brings to to mind the picture of The Devine Mercy Christ with Blood and Water gushing forth. God bless.

Yes, that is a great saying. But I have a question, and I mean no disrespect, but don’t Catholics believe that Grace comes through receiving the sacraments? Thus, Grace would come after you did something. Because you partook in a sacrament, you will get (deserve) that Grace?

Here are some answers about Grace that can answer better than I can (not that I won’t try!)
catholic.com/tracts/grace-what-it-is-and-what-it-does
catholic.com/quickquestions/what-is-the-difference-between-sanctifying-and-actual-grace-do-we-receive-special-gra

For the record, none of us deserves Grace; it is a gift from God, and can come in different forms, as noted in the above links to tracts here on Catholic Answers. Grace can be received different ways.

No disrespect taken. 🙂 Merry Christmas~

Thanks for the links! After reading them, it still seems to me that after you do something, you get Grace… although it’s free… As an example, if you go to confession, you receive Grace. So if you don’t go, you won’t receive that Grace. So to me, it sure seems like you have to do something to get it. If it’s a gift, you can’t do something to get it, otherwise it isn’t a gift.

Romans 11:6
And if by grace, then it cannot be based on works; if it were, grace would no longer be grace.

Romans 4:4
4 Now to the one who works, wages are not credited as a gift but as an obligation.

So if I do something, which is a works, I can’t receive Grace as a gift, it is the wage or obligation for something I did.

I guess I won’t be able to understand the Catholic definition, it doesn’t really line up well with my understanding of “free gift”. But I thank you for sharing the links so I could read about it! You have a Merry Christmas too! God Bless.

You’re welcome.

There are other ways to receive Graces, I believe. He gives me the Grace to deal with other holiday shoppers when I’m cranky, for example! 🙂

Grace is a gift, whether it’s through Confession or otherwise…
