I want to be well-formed ultimately to be a theology professor. That’s just what I’ve always felt called to do.

Anyway, what are good schools to start me on this track? Obviously, for a Masters to start with.

In the USA.

This would be a matter to discuss with those who are guiding you and who support you: your mentor(s), sponsor(s) and your spiritual advisor.

In other words, it is a decision to be made in the real world.

I’m biased, but St. Meinrad School of Theology has an excellent reputation globally here in southern Indiana - and you can hang out with the Benedictines.

I don’t think this means I can’t ask CAF for their thoughts, though.

How about asking your priest, or someone at the diocese, or maybe they can recommend people to talk to.

Franciscan University of Steubenville is a good, faithful, and reliable school for a masters, right now they don’t have a Doctorate, but it’s in the works.

A professor has to have a PhD, so you should keep in mind that some schools like Franciscan university in Steubenville only have masters degrees.

Not necessarily. I’ve known college professors that don’t have a doctorate. Obviously, a doctorate is going to open many more doors for teaching at the university level, but it’s not an absolute requirement.

But, yes, it is good to have a plan mapped out. You can get a Masters at one school, and then a doctorate at another, but then some schools have a program that more or less includes both.

Yes, MANY Catholic theology professors attend different schools for Masters and PhDs

It’s almost a given since a lot of them received their Master degree at a seminary
