This is a good article- and true. I love this one:
Homemade gift guilt: Take the year my Aunt Ginny decided to make everyone a special basket, packed with treats she’d made herself: “Oranges with cloves, homemade flavored coffee, my own home-baked cookies – even homemade dog biscuits.” Then, because she felt like it wasn’t enough, she went out and bought everyone a “real” present. “I was crazy that year,” she says.
I think what cured me of that one was the year when I put together tins for all of my coworkers with homemade cookies, truffles, and fudge. The stuff looked homemade and not fancy and the tins were from the dollar store so I was a bit worried, but they all went crazy over them. Most people don’t take the time to make goodies for themselves, so they appreciate the effort.

My labmates this year are getting what I gave them last year- a big tray of cookies for the whole lab. They’re all guys and don’t do presents for each other, so the cookie tray is ideal- a simple gift for all without singling out anyone or guilting them into giving me a gift. 🙂

Funny how all of the holiday pressure comes not from others but from ourselves.
