We have a son with some emotional problems and he gets a few times a day to 'think within" – it is a variation on time out, but we thought that being shut out was not the best choice for him.
Then the Holy Spirit gave me a wonderful insight.
We have enthroned the Sacred of Heart of Jesus in our home. Which means we have a nice size image of Jesus’ Sacred Heart on the wall, a small altar with an Our Lady of Grace statue and a votive candle and sometimes fresh flowers.
We put a chair in front of the home altar and let him have a chance to think within (and calm his rage) and perhaps pray too.
Our older son had started offering up his time out times through prayer-- makes my heart just so proud as it was his idea at the age of 6 yrs.
So then the Holy Spirit gave me one of those, “Wow, I could have had a V-8” kind of moments about using our home altar. :yup:
Don’t worry about shoving your religion down their throats. If a child were to take something negatively, this raging son of mine would have done that with the Rosary. Instead the Rosary has become a way to comfort and calm himself.
I think there is merit on giving your children ample opportunity to learn to pray and this is one way for our family.
Dominus vobiscum!
