I am so happy!!! We were finally allowed to set a wedding date and Father didn’t even bat an eyelash when we told him Aug 27th a mere 5 1/2 weeks away!!! Now if we could only find a place for the reception… but who cares…the important event is scheduled!!!

WAAAA-HOOOOOOOOO!!!

Congrats, blessings, and there’s always the picnic pavailions in the park for a reception. 👍

Seriously. In five 1/2 weeks, it’ll still be warm. Pretty up some of those galvanized buckets as beer/wine/pop coolers (ribbons, fake flowers from Michaels or Hobby Lobby), get a few bolts of tulle fabric to tack up instead of streamers, line up grillmen instead of/ in addition to groomsmen or find a place that will grill or do a cheap cater for you, get a dj or some friend to dj, and you are set.

You live in Peoria, huh? There should be bunches of inexpensive caterers there. I wonder if Lee and Eddie’s caters that far. $3.95 per person , all the plates, cups, breads, mostaccolli with sauce, chicken or beef, 2 salads, cake. The $6.95 per person is a feast, tons more food choices and food itself, along with the plates and utensils, etc.

Peoria, huh? I *just *got married there not too long ago!

What parish, what priest? We had St. Mary’s of Kickapoo and a lovely reception at Ravina on the Lakes.

They’re hard to book, but think about places like the riverfront parks, jubilee state park, and my personal favorite—Wildlife Prairie State Park, where I used to work! They have a great “pavilion” where you can bring your own food and it overlooks a lake.

God Bless You and message me if you need any advice on cakes, dresses or flowers! (I found an AWESOME and cheap cake lady!)

Actually, I am in the Peoria diocese. We live on the other side of the state. We belong to St Malachy’s in Rantoul. Our reception is going to be at Hardy’s Reindeer Ranch in Rantoul since I don’t want to try to provide transportation for all the out of town guests to Champaign for a reception and everywhere else is booked in Rantoul. I am including instructions to bring jeans to change into after the wedding for the reception since we will be sitting on hay bales with horse blankets. It should be lots of fun for the kids and I think I am the only one that really doesn’t like BBQ type food so I think I will be too nervous to eat anyway.

Congrats! Your wedding and reception will be wonderful, no doubt!

I recall in a past thread of yours that you were wondering how to gently relay the message of only Catholics receiving communion. I just wanted to suggest that you talk to the priest about giving polite instruction right before the procession begins. That is what our priest did- he welcomed everyone into the Church and said that our tradition in the Church is that only Catholics are to receive, but welcomed anyone to come and receive a blessing by crossing their arms over their chests. This kind of took the burden off of us and worked very well for the ceremony. Some people still stayed in their seats, but were not offended by the instruction (as far as I could tell).

Congratulations and may God bless you and your family to be!

That is the tradition in our parish as well. I think that is a great suggestion, to be honest, I have been so busy trying to get everything done that I forgot to mention to Father that will be an issue, thanks for reminding me. I hope that they won’t be offended but if they are…that’s on them as far as I see it. My fiancee’s brother is the only one that I really worry about saying something or doing something (if you recall, I posted that he just started calling me by my first name instead of “that Catholic woman” after 5 1/2 yrs of dating) because he is the one that decided to use the annulment paperwork as a platform to tell what he thought was wrong with the Catholic Church. I will be sure to talk to father about this at our next meeting. Thanks again!!!

Thank you all for your prayers and wishes for my family and our upcoming wedding. I am so glad to say that everything is working out well for us except no hotel rooms nearby. We will overcome this I am sure and I feel blest to have you all pulling for us…please pray that we have a very happy and sacramental marriage!!! Thank you all so much!!!
