Somebody had a great qoute on this board that went something to the effect of:
  • “The church is not a country club for saints, but a hospital for sinners.”
I love this saying, because it is a succinct response to many criticisms of the Church. I would like to add more of these sayings to my toolbelt for my conversations with people who have problems with the Catholic Church, Christianity, and Religion in general.

Thanks in advance!

(I did not want to hijack the thread on Bible qoutes, so I started this seperate thread.)

An old favorite from Bishop Sheen:

<<“There are not over a hundred people in the United States who hate the Catholic Church. There are millions, however, who hate what they wrongly believe to be the Catholic Church—which is, of course, quite a different thing.”>>>

Hijack away…my favourite quote and I don’t know who said it but it is well known…

‘Peace doesn’t start with the other person, it starts with you’

God Bless you and much peace and love to you xxx

My husband has one saying that he often uses when people who have been catechized poorly by the RCIA program that they came through and still retain the idea from their previous denomination that church policy is set by governing bodies who vote on what their denomination willl hold and teach on various issues - The Church is not a democracy!

Did Christ not mention that he came for the sick and that only the sick needs a doctor?

The main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing.

I googled it and got all sorts of hits. The biggest names I saw as attributions were Stephen Covey and Albert Schweitzer. I think that’s probably one of those sayings whose origin is lost in history.
