Hi ya’ll,

I was wondering if ya’ll could help me out. I’m trying to find out how many and which Greek fathers are cited in the Summa Theologica. Thanks in Advance!

Well I do know that the majority of quotes in the summa are from St. John Damascene and St. Ps. Dionysios the Areogapite. Though Augustine and Aristotle also play important roles in the summa…

I don’t know the exact figure, but the Summa is largely drawn from Eastern Fathers. I think its the most “Eastern” theological work from the West, in content if not style. It is most obviously drawn from St. John of Damascus, and if you look at St. John’s “Exposition of the Orthodox Faith” you’ll see that the Summa follows its outline very closely.

Peace and God bless!

I don’t have the numbers, but as a student of St. Thomas I know that St. John Crysostom is often cited.
