God’s Morning Loreen,
I think some of the confusion may come from the term Greek. Prior to Vatican 2, we were referred to as Greek Catholics however; since Vatican 2 we are called Byzantine. The “choice” of entering the Church in any particular Rite/Church is actually wide open. Since you are Uki (as am I) then it would make most sense for you to follow in the tradition of your origin as it creates the easiest transition. Another words, if you’re Uki, you might find the transition to Melkite overwhelming as opposed to staying in the Ukrainian-Byzantine Rite.
Pamyataj Pict!!! MIR+

There are also some who use the term “Eastern Catholic” to mean exclusively the Greek/Byzantine Catholics (i.e. not the Maronites Catholics, Coptic Catholics, etc.)
