In Matt 5:48 we are told to be “perfect”.
Is there anyone here on the forum that could
tell me the exact word, in Greek, that is
translated as “perfect”? Or how the Greek
was translated into Latin for the same word?

Thanks,

You don’t need to be a scholar; you only need to have good tools (a Latin translation found in the Navarre Bible, and a Strong’s Concordance). 🙂

The Greek word rendered as “perfect” is a form of telios which has the sense of “completeness” or “brought to completion.”

The Latin (from the New Vugate) reads “Estote ergo vos perfecti, sicut Pater vester caelestis perfectus est.”

teleios

complete, perfect, whole, mature (of a person), etc.

You can also view the Greek word in the following places:

Matt. 5:48
Matt. 19:21
Rom. 12:2
1 Co. 2:6
1 Co. 13:10
1 Co. 14:20

Oh, Fidelis and Pug, I’m grateful to you.

Thanks for taking the time to respond.

God bless you both,
