I thought I would start a topic on Gregorian Chant. I do not go to the Tridentine Mass (in fact I mainly go to a Ruthenian parish now), but I’ve always loved Gregorian Chant (at least since coming back to the Faith). Today I purchased my first CD entitled The Mystery of Santo Domingo de Silos. It is a CD from Monks of Spain. So, I was just curious about what other good CDs there are out there. I’ve listened to a few before online, but most seem to be semi-professionally produced (i.e. no studio, mixing, etc.). What Gregorian Chant CDs do you have?

Here’s a link to the CD I purchased (in case you’re interested):

I am saving up for the CD you mentioned. A very excellent double CD set I have is “Gregorian Chillout”. It is also for a reasonable price about $25 for over 2 hours worth of sacred music prominent to pre-Vatican II. It’s not all specifically Gregorian Chant. There are two high Church Anglican Hymns sung in English, one French church hymn as well as Brahm’s Christmas Carol, Geistliches Wiegenlied, sung in German. There is also sacred music from William Byrd’s mass for 2 voices, Mozart and Elgar’s versions of Ave Verum Corpus. Believe me, I have not been disappointed in this set.

You can find this set at Barnes & Noble’s:

You might want to check your local library. I live in a city with a low Catholic population, yet our library system has a selection of chant CDs. This would allow you to listen before purchasing.

I have the CD that you have. Two others I have which I would recommend are:

Gregorian Chant: The Choir of the Carmelite Priory, London. Directed by John McCarthy.

Gregorian Chant: Choralschola der Wiener Hofburgkapelle. Directed by P. Hubert Dopf S.J.
