You know, it’s difficult for us to understand who live in the world;
I was with the Missionaries of Charity (Mother Teresa’s Order) for 5 years and we could not write to friends, but only to family members once a month, and were allowed a visit from our family only once a year. We couldn’t go home for 10 years.
The idea is that you leave everything and follow Jesus. Although you are bonded with those in the world, your sisters in the convent become your family now, and God your Beloved…it’s just as Jesus said, give up everything… The grace that comes from that is incredible. When I was in the convent, I saw so much grace going out to my family. When I left, I found the opposite to be true. The Lord will bless you for this sacrifice - He wants your heart as well, and not to be attached to creatures -
but to Him, the Creator. It’s a difficult concept for us to grasp, but if your friend was to get married, she would begin to slowly distance herself as well most probably…she would cleave to her husband.
Grace far out reaches what flesh and blood can do for you (the physical presence of your friend). Know, that if you were so close, her prayers and sacrifices will touch your soul in a way that you cannot see - in a way that she would never have been able to do without giving her whole life to the Lord.
I don’t know if this helps - I understand your feelings and respect them -
We can only truly understand it from a spiritual point of view, and fully in the next life.
Peace-
Patricia
