The physical and spiritual worlds are separate. That much we know–however they aren’t so separated that they cannot, at various points in time, intersect and interact with each other. With this is mind, it has got me to thinking: Why can’t we see our Guardian Angel? Clearly these angelic beings can manifest themselves as they (or God) please, furthermore, these angels were specifically created for us and serve as our protectors and guides, so why can’t we interact with them outside of the same general prayer that we give to the saints? Even if we couldn’t see the other peoples’ angels, it would be purely beneficial to see our own. Imagine being able to interact with them, to know more about God whilst also simply being able to communicate and develop a real relationship (since God’s plan is for us to coexist forever). They could not only protect, but uplift and guide in a way that cannot be done invisibly. Just imagine all of the bullied, lonely, poor, and oppressed who could have at least one friend in their GA’s. Instead we know that they exist, but seldom (if ever) interact with them, if fact, there’s no telling how they actually protect us, as it’s impossible to ascertain whether anything good comes from them, another angel, or even God Himself directly.

God Bless

This is actually one of the charismatic gifts of the Holy Spirit. Discernment of Spirits.

Some saints such as Padre Pio was able to see and communicate with angels.

Can one request these gifts, or are they permanently assigned at the moment of conception?

Edit: Also, why doesn’t everyone have the gift to see their GA? Even if they cannot see the other spirits, the Guardian Angel is supposed to have a unique and personal relationship with it’s designated soul, it would seem like everyone would be able to talk to at least them.

Because they are non-corporal. No bodies. They are pure spirit.

Every time an Angel appears to a person in Scripture, the Angel has to say “Don’t be afraid!”, so, the reason we cannot all see Angels. Many people would be frightened!

I suggest reading Dr Peter Kreeft’s book on Angels.

Interesting, where do you find this doctrine? We can read in the Catechism:

1831 The seven gifts of the Holy Spirit are wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety, and fear of the Lord. They belong in their fullness to Christ, Son of David. They complete and perfect the virtues of those who receive them.

The charismatic gifts according to St. Paul in 1 Corinthians 12 as well as in the catechism of the Church state that these gifts are given freely, by the Holy Spirit who determines who to give the gifts to. Pa states that we should desire these gifts eagerly.

People should pray to be given the gifts of the Holy Spirit however they should not be used for personal use bur for the common good of the Church.

Discernment of Spirits can vary. It can go from just being able to sense evil or good spirits to being able to have visions or seeing evil or good spirits.

There are 9 gifts in total.

In the Bible it is 1 Corinthians 12
As for in the doctrine I will post a link.

See manifestation gifts/corinthians gifts
Also referred to as charismatic gifts

The 9 charismatic gifts of the holy spirit are different from the 7 gifts of the holy spirit confirmation in that they are not natural abilities.

How did you come to this understanding of the gift of discernment? I agree with the description you linked to and while saints like Padre Pio or St. Gemna Galgani may have had the gift of discernment but seeing their angels was in part due to their holiness and assistance for their spiritual trials.

Okay, you are using St Paul’s “one body many parts”, you will see that the word is manifestations of the gifts.
