Of course! Pray for guidance, protection and intercession of your Guardian angel! But do not give a name to your Guardian angel.

Yes. You can also ask him for help. I like to sing the Sanctus (Holy, Holy) with him at Mass.

DO NOT - name your Guardian Angel - that’s - mistake number one.

I named mine Fred. My spiritual director at the time approved of this.

For those posters who said that one shouldn’t name one’s guardian angel — May I ask why not?

Wear your guardian angel out. Make your angel happy that you finally went to bed.

I don’t pretend to know the full story.

but my understanding is that naming something presupposes power/authority over a person/being…and in the case of our Angel that would be theologically wrong, actually wrong.

But maybe someone else can offer a reason. I’ve never named for the reason I give here.

Edward - your pretty good !
Yes, Adam named creatures that were underneath him in authority.
Just as Husband and wife name their children -
because they are under the parents authority -
or naming your cat - though the cat will NEVER admit this authority structure 😀

is ok to talk to our guardian angels?
I talk with my guardian angel frequently, and I talk to the guardian angels of my students frequently as well, especially when I don’t know how to handle behavior issues in the classroom.

I address my guardian angel as “dear angel” rather than a specific name, just FYI.

I agree with everything in Edward’s post. I would also add this:

God has already named your Guardian Angel.

We should not attempt to usurp the name God has already given, simply because we do not now know it.

We will know our Guardian Angel’s name when we get to heaven.

You should pray to your guardian angel; This prayer is found in the Compendium of the Catechism of the Catholic Church;

Angel of God
Angel of God,
my guardian dear,
to whom God’s love commits me here,
ever this day be at my side,
to light and guard, to rule and guide.
Amen.

Actually, and this is a personal opinion of mine, your Guardian Angel is going to take you to heaven. Forget the Grim Reaper and the black hood and scythe, I think my Guardian angel (I haven’t given him a name; a nickname though, I call him Buzz) is my own personal angel of both life and death, I’ll talk to him because I want to get in a few explanations of why I did some of the things I did in life. I’m hoping he will put in a good word with The Boss for me. 😉
