There parents may not have been there. The one that is 16 could have driven.

Great that they go, too bad that they don’t know how to act.
I’m not even sure it’s great that they go. From the sotries I have heard form my sister about her friend, she goes just to socialize and meet people that used to go to her old grade school as well as anyone else she might know and mass is just a hangout. Then my sister’s friend tries to convince people to go out and get coffee with her during the mass. Now I’m sure they all have the knowledge that they should be at mass and want to go in that regard. However, teens can care less about what they do. I don’t remember ever being that bad but I know I’ve matured quite a bit in just a few years.

This is Catholic 101 - do not chew gum in church. However, nobody teaches it anymore.
if you ask the kids of any age in our CCD program “What is rule No. 1” they will shout out “No gum in Church”

That is absolutely ridiculous how they acted. I would have NEVER even thought of doing that in ANY church let alone during Mass! Good for you for having the courage to say something to them! There is no reason for that, especially at their age.

I can’t understand why all the defiance from them.
Their defiant & disrespectful attitude was disturbing to me. As a teen, if an adult admonished me for something I was doing wrong in Church, I would have been mortified:eek: and humbled. As in this situation,I may have even swallowed my gum!! Beckyann, I agree with what you did. Bravo!:clapping:

The kids should have been taught better at least they were still kids and will have learned form this. We saw an older lady passing out mints to everyone in her pew. My husband and my jaw hit the floor:eek:

People just don’t know.

On a confirmation retreat, some kids were upset because one of the adults told them they couldn’t have tea or punch right before Mass. When I asked the adult leader if he explained to the teens why they couldn’t have those beverages, he said he just assumed they knew the rules. I suggested that they might not know or remember.

Later, when I asked one of the college helpers if she knew why she couldn’t have the tea, she had no idea. When I explained, she said she didn’t remember learning that. —KCT

I think their disrespect is what got me too! If they simply didn’t know and went OH! and spit out their gum it would have been different. They just had such an attitude!
