They were in our house this time, eating our food, without permission or invitation. And they wouldn’t leave. Just helped themselves to everything.

I’ve had these dreams, before. A large crowd of strangers squatting on our land, on our deck, down in our daylight basement – and always refusing to leave when asked to do so.

This is unsettling. These dreams are recurring.

I heard an interesting approach once, which was to consider how in dreams, every ‘character’ is actually you. I.e. if it’s your parent in the dream, what happens to them may represent the part of you that you associate with that parent.

I wouldn’t necessarily say this seems to always hold true for mine, but it’s always interesting to go back and consider my dreams with this possibility in mind.

E.g. maybe, if you’re dreaming about squatters in your house, eating your food… your mind is putting an image to something that’s going on inside you. Like, you feel overwhelmed by sin? Or some part(s) if you are taking advantage of others? Do you potentially feel oppressed and burdened by some tendency(/ies) within yourself that seems to grasp for goods in a disordered fashion, seems to take advantage of access to resources you wish you could be more responsible with, and these tendencies just won’t “go away” when you “ask them to leave”?

I don’t know if that makes sense, from where you sit. But maybe considering this from a new angle, and looking for what your brain might be trying to tell you about… yourself! might be more fruitful than looking for significance to do with anything beyond yourself (if that’s part of what’s confusing you?)

Or I mean… do you have a locust problem?

Do you worry about these kinds of things in your non-sleeping hours?

The fact that this is a recurring dream, but it’s distressing you…

I would take it that you feel overwhelmed and out of control of one or more aspect of your life.
The squatters won’t listen to you or respect your wishes or rights.
Maybe you feel this way to some extent.

I don’t believe dreams predict the future, but they can reflect how we’re feeling—ie happy dreams when things are going well, sad or scary dreams when they aren’t.
