I had to put my retired guide dog to sleep today.

some of you might remember me posting about putting down another guide dog last year, it’s been only 10 months since then.

it’s still awful the second time around, even though this one was old and it’s not a huge shock. I know the alternative would have been worse, since he had a tumor on his spleen and internal bleeding in his abdomen, which must have been pretty severe because he had gotten seriously anaemic. but it is still a horrible decision to have to make

its hard to talk to people in my real life, everyone makes it their business to either tell me, it was just a dog, get over it. or else that I’m a horrible person to decide to let them die, or don’t waste my time praying about it, or it was a waste of money to do diagnostics. which just makes everything more stressful

sorry for the vent, thanks for listening, please just pray for me

I’m so sorry @angel1. I remember when you lost your other dog. I’m praying for you. Many times, our dogs (pets) are closer to us that people. They love unconditionally and are always there for you. When I see people walking their dogs, I turn into a pile of mush! My dog is going to be 12 this summer. She’s my love bug.

I am sure the bond between the owner and their service dog is very strong so these losses so close together must be extremely
hard. Praying for you as you grieve for the
losses of your service dogs.

thank you, I think anyone losing a pet is hard anyways, but yes, the bond is a bit different

I’m sad for you too.
One’s devoted animal companion is a little reflection of God’s unconditional love.
