Halloween; is the act of going trick-or-treating demonic?

So theres this argument on social media, mainly between Catholics. The Catholic that posted that Halloween is satanic, keeps saying it celebrates fear and evil, theres a lot of demonic activity, etc, and also offers the alternatives. Other people reply that the act of just trick-or-treating is fine, especially if you don’t think about it as a demonic day. Some also say that he is confusing worshipping Satan and the harmless act of getting candy from kids neighbors. The first guys continues saying that it is in fact wrong even if you don’t think about it that way.

There are a lot of questions within those arguments, including:
Is trick-or-treating okay?
Especially if:
  1. The parents know about All Saints Day, and how Halloween is a secular tradition, etc?
  2. The kids are dressed up in an unharmful costume such as a princess, a super hero, angel, etc?
Is it getting confused with secular and demonic activity? (Someone says “right, i’m telling my child that he cant go trick-or-treating because it is a demonic holiday. Oh please!”)

It’s also said that dressing up is not the problem, it is the fact that halloween is the exposure of kids to this secular tradition that celebrates demonic attributes.

But then I heard in a video that it really is all about the person. Getting the family together, carving pumpkins, kids dressing up and asking for candy, really are nice things. It’s all about how the person views it, and if this person does healthy things in this secular tradition.

There are articles I believe on the main Catholic Answers site - go there and look them up…

My approach there are elements to certainly avoid in the current society approach and be cautious of and to keep in mind…but that does mean that ones kids can not dress up and go out for candy…at a young age it is an exposure to dressing up as… paw patrol…or elmo…or a knight…
 
As a kid going trick or treating in the 1960s, it was just plain fun. I had zero knowledge about it being evil. We wore attractive costumes and our kindly neighbors provided us with treats. A parent always accompanied us. So many porch lights were on, but some were off. All we cared about was having fun, enjoying the smiles and pleasant comments of those who greeted us, and the candy and other treats.

Our costumes were of pleasant or scary characters and once it was over, it was over. Nothing demonic was involved. It was a chance for a community to celebrate together a tradition that ended the night we went to sleep.

Same here. It is a secular holiday that can be celebrated by all children of whatever faith or of no faith. It is just sheer fun for children (and adults) to dress up and come home with a bunch of candy treats. The only thing possibly demonic about Halloween is one must be careful to inspect the candy and other goodies received from strangers before eating them, especially nowadays.
 
After 10 yrs. old, you should be through with trick or treating for candy!

I don’t remember the exact year but I was disheartened to learn that everything we got had to be inspected. Before that, we didn’t. It seems like someone wanted to spoil our fun.

Yes, you and all the others were drawn away from the real reason, I had the same experiences when I was a kid, it was fun, never once did we think about the facts, we just cared about getting candy, dressing up, having fun.

Kind of like the secular crowd would like everyone to live…just have fun, dont worry about God, religious laws, celebrations, etc lol

What would “the facts” (whatever that means) have meant to a kid of that age group? Those “facts” were outside our experience and had no effect on us. I was raised “to think about God” as you say, and I can honestly state doing the trick or treating and the rest of the secular Halloween activities did not affect that in the least.

There’s nothing wrong with kids dressing in costumes and going door to door to get candy. We did it in the 50s and 60s and never once thought of it in any other terms other than dressing up and getting goodies.

If you’re referring to Pat Robertson’s recent comments, well, Father Morris responded on twitter that such thinking of Halloween as some celebration of demons is a “dark analysis”, meaning he has a dim view on such commentary.

So dressing up for Halloween is fine, but like most fun things, it goes along with having good intentions.

The real tragedy about Halloween and the following two days is that people party but don’t pray for the dead. :(:o:mad:
 
any body who think Holloween is not a product of Satan is not mature

100% demonic, You should keep yourself and family away from this

If catholic invented it then I must say Satanic elements in catholic must have had a hand in it .
