How far back can the use of the posture of putting hands together when praying be traced in church history ?

What are the earliest artistic depictions of people (or a single person) pressing their hands together when praying ?

What are the earliest mentions of this posture in church-related writings ?

Artistically, at least to the Middle Ages (there being much less surviving art from before then).

IMS, I was told that the hands are joined in commemoration of martyrs who died with bound hands.
