Well, seeing as I have a final to cram for all day and take all night… no. But I wish I did. Midsummer is a good traditional holiday you can do no matter what you believe, but it seems like no one celebrates it anymore except pagans and anthroposophists.
Maybe I’ll study outside.
 
think I will put an *sses head on DH while he sleeps and pretend to be queen of the fairies.
 
sooo I’ll bite this is a celebration of the first day of summer?

The radio station I used to listen to (before xm) liked to play “Here comes the Sun”, does that work? 🙂

Summer Solstice. Unfortunately we can’t make the group ritual that we usually attend (to be held this weekend), so I am not sure what we will do other than possibly pour some libations.

Actually, I would use that particular song at one of the earlier holidays, perhaps Imbolc (Feb. 2) or Ostara (vernal equinox) depending on your climate because of the language of “it’s been a long cold lonely winter.” Summer Solstice marks the beginning of the dark half of the year, when the light begins to fade, just as Winter Solstice marks the beginning of the light half, as the days begin lengthening. Helpful to remember that even when the days are the longest and our focus is most outward, the cycle is already turning toward shorter days and a more inward focus and preparation for harvest. It does remain a day to celebrate light, life, outdoors, warmth, the height of the growing season.
 
My faith celebrates the Solar Holy days, but not using the terminology and symbolism of Wicca, Celtic, etc. So, I am celebrating Summer Solstice today, but rather more gently than usual due to being wiped out after my son’s wedding last weekend.

I changed the altar over from wedding symbolism to summer symbolism. It is white, with gardenias in a crystal vase, and a white stone candle holder.

I will do some outside meditations.

when I woke up…there was a sun and the message “Happy Solstice” written on the bathroom mirror!

I am wearing my sun pendant.

I will participate in group ritual on Sat.

The rest, is private, certain things that I am praying, thanking, worshipping with concern to.

Summer solstice is a rather quiet holy day for me, more thoughtful and relaxed than some.

Oh, and we will eat good things out of the garden.

hmm Im just starting to enjoy the long days, so this is the “longest day of the yr” as opposed to in winter when its the longest night, do I have that right? I remember my mom telling me that.

Where I am its light until 11 pm or so, the first time we went south to Lake Powell it was getting dark at 7 I felt ripped off :eek:

Mind you someone there said how do you sleep, I said mini blinds. I hate the winter when its gets dark at 4, I guess they are long and cold.
